Alien Appendix #3: The Alien Archive (Released)

 (Edited)

It’s time for a quick update on the thrilling next instalment in the Alien Appendix series!

Disc 3 - which we should have ready to go by the end of this month - will be the Alien Archive (not to be confused with the Ebay Alien Archives discs of old).
This DVD is intended to wrap up our exploration of the original Alien movie with a collection of supplements and rarities, not to be found elsewhere (at least, not commercially).

The collection will be headlined by Giger’s Alien (which should need no introduction) and Shock and Awe, a UK TV documentary broadcast around the time that the Director’s Cut was released.
This dual-layer disc will also feature a number of smaller items from various sources, including some nice treats for the true Alien enthusiast!

A terrific cover is on its way from Ash595 (I’ll leave it to him to share it when he’s ready) and if anyone is in a position to torrent this one, I’ll see they get one of the first copies.

Cheers

Jonno

Does anyone know if the 'Alien War' documentary has been released yet? I've seen the trailer but the website hasn't updated in ages.
Unfortunately I wasn't living in London at the time so I didn't get a chance to go see this. Did anyone here see it when it was still on at the Trocadero?

No sign of that doc yet Faustus (indeed, the website hasn't been updated for nearly 9 months).

If you have a dig around in one of the earlier Alien threads, you'll see I was a huge fan, going on it countless times and along with a few other members here have very fond memories of it. Absolutely top-notch entertainment

Good news on #3 Jonno - should have one of the finishing touches with you very soon...

Not initially - at least, not from me!

Did NTSC versions of discs 1 and 2 get into circulation? I passed on an NTSC version of Evolution to Meedermow so that disc 1 could be done (I think that was for you, DFNYC!), and he may well have done disc 2 as well (maybe the original version was NTSC?! The source material certainly was) but in those cases we were dealing with one or two separate elements whereas on this disc we have… well, quite a few more

If there's a quick method that anyone can recommend (to handle menus as well as straight video files), I'm all ears, otherwise I'll happily send a master to anyone else who wants to give it a shot.

More for Jonno's benefit since DFNYC owns at least one of these beauts !

Alien Appendix 1 - Evolution (PAL)
Alien Appendix 1a - Evolution (NTSC)

Alien Appendix 2 - Redux DL (anamorphic NTSC)
Alien Appendix 2a - Redux SL (non-anamorphic NTSC)

Looking forward to 3

Looks like we have a certain obligation to keep the set NTSC-friendly, then!

Let's see what we can put together. Might take a little longer than the PAL version, mind...

here is the tentative front cover for Appendix #3.

I am waiting now for the complete listing of the supplements and rarities to do the back cover.

I have an original epk (on 3/4 inch tape) for Alien3 if anybody is interested, has a LOT of unedited BTS b-roll and interview clips, all of which can be played with either production sound or narration, it's pretty cool to watch if you're a fan of the film...there are some deleted scene shots if I remember correctly...it would be a nice project if somebody made a dvd out of it (all of the interview clips have a text question, followed by a reply by the actor..lends itself to a menu breakdown...) lemme know if you guys are interested in it for the appendix....

I hate to be "one of those people" but does anyone know of any active torrents for appendices 1 & 2?

I only really acquired the ability to download recently, so...

Anyway, any help very appreciated.

My interpretation of the cover:

"Ellen Ripley submits to the will of the Aliens after finding out Alien Vs. Predator 2 was greenlit."

That is a nifty cover.

Hi Murch, thanks for stopping by! That potentially sounds like a very interesting addition (to what will probably be AA5) - could you turn your PMs on so I can ask a few questions without taking this thread off track? Thanks!

I believe I have a very average video copy of that stuff too. (In storage.)

Are a lot of the deleted effects shots just on their own, interspersed with black?

I was so excited back when I first got it...the shot of the Alien walking headfirst down the wall during the fire sequence made me giddy.

I believe so, (I made a vhs copy at onbe point - I'll have to dig it out and watch it again) - but my copy is an original from the studio 3/4 (almost as good as beta sp/broadcast quality), so I think it would be the best source material....I'll try to figure out how to turn my pms on....

EDIT Ok - pm's are on...

more info on AW

Hi John,

The UK dates are Glasgow July for 3 months followed by London to start Christmas for 9 months then off to Europe.
Yes, we have added to the attraction!
AW was shut down a year after we sold the company and the new owners had pipes inside the base that burst and closed it down and waited until they got a big insurance cheque and thought why bother opening it up again we may as well retire!

Thanks,
Gary.

That's fantastic news - and finally the closure urban myths can be put to rest !

I reckon (if you're in contact with one of the key players - Stormtrooper) we should be able to arrange a little UK group outing closer to the time when venues etc are confirmed. It was such a great event !

Cheers,

mm

I'm there! I'm in Maidstone, Kent, so I'm really close! Oh yes! If it's half as good as I heard it was, I'll be there every weekend for as long as they run!
Count me in for any group outing to go see this!
