Ahsoka (live action series) - general discussion thread — Page 4

Please just die already, Ahsoka, like you should have on Malachor. Filoni needs to let his precious baby go. I’m sick of her.

The longer she lives, the worse she looks.

Especially because she’s apparently still alive during TRoS, according to Filoni. So… why isn’t she involved in the fight against the First Order? Who cares about Luke Skywalker vanishing when the main character of Star Wars according to the internet is still alive and kicking?

She was a good character in TCW and Rebels. She should have stayed there instead of being pushed to every corner of the Star Wars universe.

We also might have been spared of the worst episode of Mando if she died in Rebels.

By screen time she’s basically the main character of the franchise and I hope she continues to be in everything.

Which is indeed becoming a huge problem in this franchise (no longer a Saga, sadly), creating circumvoluted plot issues. Not really hyped by having more of her 😕

That is exactly what a saga is. Long form stories of mythical characters all connected to each other with plots that are just there for the characters to do impressive things.

No, I second Neverargreat: she’s just ruining everthing with her side quests which don’t belong in this timeline. It’s no longer a saga, it’s a franchise: meaning there is no mythology here, just modern marketing…

It’s been a franchise since Splinter of the Mind’s Eye. The word franchise is also utterly unrelated to the word saga other than them both being used for media. And if you think 1978 is an example of ‘modern marketing’ then that’s an… original take.

If you think the presence of interconnected characters ‘ruins’ stories then maybe you want to only watch or read stand-alone media rather than anything with a sequel, prequel, or spin-offs… you know, like Star Wars.

Luke being the only hope against Vader is a mythical thing because Star Wars is a fantasy. Not literally that he’s the only Jedi physically left. Luke (and obviously Leia) are the ones that can defeat Vader because they represent the good in Anakin. It was never about physically being able to defeat him else Yoda would have done so, so Ahsoka, Ezra, Cal, or any number of Jedi knocking around is completely unrelated to the story of Vader’s redemption.

Luckily Ahsoka is there to tie together the much more interesting parts of the saga than ‘whining farmhand tries to make genocidal tyrant good again’ and long may that continue.

I considered engaging in this discussion but if this is how you see Star Wars then it’s so wildly different from how I do that it’s probably not even worth it to try and argue anything.

I fully believe Ahsoka’s whereabouts during events of the original trilogy will be cleared up at some point. Dave Filoni and the Rebels team did make sure that the other two Jedi characters, Kanan and Ezra, were safely out of the way before ANH. I’d love Ahsoka to have been on some kind of spiritual journey for a higher purpose, called away by the Force simply because it isn’t her destiny to help Vader see the light again, but Luke’s.

If we don’t get any kind of explanation like that, yeah I’ll be pissed too.

Her existence in the OT period pretty effectively short-circuits the dramatic stakes of those movies.

In ten years, people will view the adventures of Luke Skywalker as a footnote to Ahsoka Tano’s mythic battle against the Thrawn Ascendancy.

If they don’t already now.

Yeah, Artan’s post practically proves my point, and I’m not even that big on lionizing the characters of the OT.

Far be it from me to summarize the entire OT, but Luke’s belief in the inherent goodness of his father strikes me as a fairly central takeaway. If that doesn’t appeal to you Artan…maybe Star Wars isn’t your thing?

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

You heard it here first, folks. Anakin’s only student being alive and able to confront him is ‘completely unrelated to the story of Vader’s redemption’.

Correct. She tried, she failed, and moved on. Or have you not seen the franchise before?

That already is the explanation. It’s not spelt out because you don’t need that sort of thing spelling out. She tried to redeem Vader and couldn’t so she went off and did other things. Same as Yoda, same as Obi-Wan.

Sigh, did you bother to read the post or just take my hyperbolic summery as the entire point? Luke and Vader’s story (together) is the OT and nothing else, and you know what, I don’t massively like the OT because I don’t care about Vader in any way, but luckily there’s an entire franchise of much more interesting characters I do watch. So maybe you could read the post again and realise that Luke isn’t important to most of it which was my point and that if a viewer only cares about Luke and Vader then SW is not for them because it only makes up a tiny fraction of it.

You can’t really make such a deadpan “hyperbolic summary” and then get upset with someone when they take it seriously, especially because there was no real indication that you weren’t being serious until after the fact.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting Hayden Christensen will appear in the upcoming Ahsoka series.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

As we’re now hearing more news and don’t have another dedicated thread, I might turn this one into the official Ahsoka series thread.

Ok, so, Anakin… are we thinking Clone Wars flashback, or force ghost, or both?

I think it depends on where the focus of the story is. If it’s more of a character study series which explores that broken relationship of Ahsoka and Anakin, I can imagine flashbacks to revisit their bond during the war, then Anakin appears as a force ghost near the end and they reconcile. We certainly couldn’t have a series just about that though. Seeing as it’s likely we’ll get TCW flashbacks in Obi-Wan Kenobi anyway, I bet Hayden will just be playing force ghost Anakin.

Hopefully a flashback or vision - maybe a holocron…? Force Ghosts should surely be reserved for Sebastian Shaw 😉

I do hope the story and script gives Hayden Christensen a good chance to shine and have a quality / compelling performance in this.

Quality amending of the thread to also serve as a discussion for the coming Ahsoka series, jedi_bendu. 👍

Can’t wait to see Thrawn and Ezra in live action.

I’m slightly annoyed that if rumours are true, they didn’t even approach Taylor Gray and Tiya Sircar to consider them reprising their roles as Ezra and Sabine. I know voice actors may not necessarily be experienced at live action acting but I find it disrespectful to voice actors everywhere that so many people think keeping the original character voices isn’t important.

I would probably have preferred a Rebels sequel series to be animated, as you can be more ambitious and not limited by practical live action constraints (think Ahsoka’s short head tails in The Mandalorian…), but ah well. I might change my tune depending on how good it looks (and I’m very happy it’s being reported that Lars Mikkelsen is returning to play Thrawn. It never could have been anyone else in my book)

Tiya Sircar actually has experience in live action. She’s in the movie 17 Again with Matthew Perry and Zac Efron. It’s really cheesy and lighthearted fun with a great message. I can’t remember her standing out but she also didn’t have much to work with as she wasn’t a major focus. I think she’d do just fine in live action and has grown as an actress since then. I also completely agree. It’s a shame she or Taylor Gray may not have been asked to reprise their roles in live action Star Wars.

Definitely would’ve preferred it as an animated sequel too but it seems like the story will be a bit more mature for the more lighthearted kid friendly tone of Rebels and what Disney usually does with their animated projects.

Eh, almost all the live action characters’ voices change in the switch to animation (hell in Palpatine’s case, it changed a few times), so it’s really only fair that it also happens in reverse.

Outlets like Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety tend to be very reliable and often get information from big studio representatives themselves. Both Deadline and Variety have reported this. It looks like we have our Sabine, guys.

What are your thoughts on the casting?
