If I had kids, I would never try to raise them as Star Wars fans. I would make available the original Star Wars trilogy (probably "despecialized" editions), Indiana Jones 1 and 3 (the two movies in the trilogy), The Terminator and Terminator 2, etc. and so on, and allow them to watch them if they want to. That's it.

If they bring home anything that is labeled "Star Wars", then I would take it away from them ... unless it is vintage, of course. hmm.. on second though, I would take it away from them especially if it is vintage -- but only to put it into a glass case.

There are lots and lots of people who like th PT.

I just don't think most of them frequent TFN or listen to lots of interviews from Lucas. They just like them.

This isn't a defense of the PT. A bazillion people liked Transformers 3, and no one said they needed a website to "defend" i.

Keeping your kid from watching the PT?  That's a little over the top.  This is a different generation, and they have every right to enjoy things that we don't enjoy.  In fact, it doesn't bother me at all if the younger generation doesn't like the original SW and prefers the PT.  They also don't like the Beatles, Miles Davis, and a host of other things that earlier generations consider great.  However, they should learn to respect that which came before, because the things they love will become passe too.

That said, I think that eventually anyone with an IQ over 90 will realize, on their own or with a modicum of education, that the PT sucks and the OT rocks.

I watched the OOT  (my dad had copies from the 19965 re release and I was born in 1996 so I'm literally in the middle I guess) and I watched the PT. I like both - I like one more than the other, I think it's obvious which, but there's no need to go to extremes. In fact, I think in context with the PT, directing, acting, dialogue, etc, the plot of the OT is much better. Note, I said plot. Nothing else. 

(In fact I say overall the plot of the PT is better than the OT, the presentation is what makes the OT the better trilogy)

And no, I'm not one of those who believes that what's new is better - I like the Beatles more than the Black Eyed Peas , Jack Kirby more than Grant Morrison. 

Reading reddit makes me want to stab myself in the eye with an icepick due to the format alone.

My lad got a General Grievous mask for Christmas. Recently he's really gotten into it.

Having never seen ROTS, he calls the mask "Bad Guy" and alternates between it and his Darth Vader mask.

My boy (2 1/2) also really digs the cartoon from The Holiday Special.

Either way, Awesome. That's just way awesome. I wish I had never seen it.

Well, my son has been exposed to the Prequals.

Kinda.

Yesterday at the frozen yogurt shop he saw "The Padawan Menace," the Lego Star Wars cartoon.  He liked it. So did I. I think I need to go and buy it.

My son came over to stay at the weekend and asked to watch the original Star Wars. He is 16years old and this is the first time, even surrounded by all the memorabilia at my place, that he has wanted to watch the film.

He has always sat quite while I rant and rave about George and the state of the franchise.

So, on Sunday he asks to watch the unaltered Star Wars. Before hand, I give him a brief outline on the making of the film and to forget completely anything from the prequels that he may remember.

He sat through the whole film not making a sound. The final verdict.."Brilliant" !

After the film we had a short chat on the changes that have been made to the film since and how George has suppressed the original.

Next up, Empire. He wants to watch the original version again and has not even asked to see any updated scenes yet from any of the films.

If after the trilogy is complete, he will want to ever watch the films again..who knows ? All I know is that he was really happy to watch the original Star Wars and to listen to me going on about the 'good 'ol days !
