Abyss in HD?

While I can appreciate a nice DVD on a nice upscaler... 1989 The Abyss is not a nice DVD.  It's letterboxed, not anamorphic- so right there it's about 60% of the resolution it should be... so I've been  waiting for the a new DVD or a BD to come out... but I've wanted to watch it recently.  Has it been in HD on TV anytime?  Are there HD rips of it available anywhere?

By coincidence I was thinking the same thing just the other day (except I don't even have a DVD - I only have this film on VHS!).

Unfortunately there is no BD, and AFAIK no HDTV rip available either.

The dvd was awful.

Non Anamorphic.

Also was there problems with it that also plagued early DVD's?

I cannot remember exactly but it was really bogus.

Apparently, the Abyss will be getting a Blu-Ray release this year. No word of if it will be the theatrical or directors cut of the movie though

It’s just going to be a solid teal screen with the audio in Dolby Atmos.

Adywan will realize the movies would look way better in teal.

And that will delay ESB for another FIVE YEARS while he figures out how to make it happen. The effects shots will need to be redone, of course, to make sure they’re integrally teal and can’t be altered by anyone.

Also in news about movies finally coming to Blu: The Pink Panther sequels!

The Pink Panther has been out for a while now, but the sequels have been slow to follow. Hopefully they’ll release individual titles, I really just want a Shot in the Dark, and IIRC, the DVD is just dreadful.

Bill Hunt says to expect news re: The Abyss in Blu and 4K in the next few weeks.

Why? They have released titles the studios often won’t bother with on their own these days. The Ray Harryhausen Blu Rays have been wonderful.

I hate the limited edition releases. If you miss them, you have to spend 400 dollars on them.
