Perusing Wookiepedia, I kept coming across this dude's name.

Apparently Abel Pena writes for the Star Wars website, and the RP games.

What's weird, is that it seems what he scribbles in the margins of Rule Books or in blogs on the Star Wars website apparently is offical Lucasfilm canon. Real authors are bound by it (I guess that's why the villain in 'Shadows of Mindor' is so confusing, he had to fit the convoluted backstory Pena had already established for the character).

The next Darth Bane book has to mesh with the list of fictional Sith Lords this guy made up for an RPG supplement or something.

I'm not trying to throw hate at this guy. He writes quite eloquently about Star Wars in some of his blogs.
It just seems very backwards to me that the creative people tasked with actually writing the sagas have to bend-knee to the ideas of a guy who comes up with the dramatic sentences that appear on Star Wars trading cards.

Thats what so awesome about Lucasfilm, is their desire to keep all of continuity as tight as possible

It's not awesome. It's sad. If only Lucas was so meticulous about the continuity of the films. He's set strict boundaries for writers, and has hired people to regulate what goes into the EU according to those boundaries.

It is so exhausting trying to have a conversation on these boards. Alll 99.999999999999% of you do is say how much you hate this or how Lucas destroyed that. You cant post a single thing without saying something negative about Star Wars.

It doesnt strike you as odd that writers, people hired for their skills to craft compelling stories, are bound by what 'offical bloggers' and editors on role playing game supplements from the 80s decided were good ideas? Ideas that the vast majority of us never heard of (Darth Millenial? I dont know who he is... but this Pena guy invented him some time back and now he's canon).

I would say more positive things, you know, if there were more positive things about Lucas & Co.

There was nothing all that negative about TheBoost's original post. He made a good point.

It is kind of exhusting that 99.9% of all your posts are complaints about us.

Can you really find everything about Star Wars and LFL throughout the ages so mind numbingly amazing?

Even the most avid fans of the PT could easily agree with TheBoost original post. Sometimes it feels that you are just trying to make a counter culture here disagreeing with everything said against SW in anyway. Making everything people complain about out to be something that is in reality spectacular.

Rest assured, there is no need to do that. There are enough unconditional SW fans out there already. Trust me, breaths of fresh air are good for you.

We could make a television show featuring Axia and Go-Mer-Tonic taking on the basher community. It'd be like The Avengers. Except exceedingly dumber.

Usually, the Lucasites get bored and leave after awhile; Axia seems determined to stick in for the long haul.

That would be awesome! I'd totally watch. But remember, I gave Gomer his very own talk show thread, and he just up and left the site. I wonder what the chances are that we could get him to co-host this thing? The two would make a perfect duo!

Actually, I had been concentrating really hard lately on not trying to be negative in my posts. I like how this is a relatively small community of Star wars fans that I can have a serious conversation with. This is why I stick around. You cant have conversations on theforce.net as too many people go there. Your post just gets lost amoung the other 100s of fans. (Im also willing to bet the average age of the posters is far below mine) I tried Galacticsenate.com but they dont seem to have a lot of posters or very interesting discussions.

Im not trying to create a counter culture here, I'm really not. I also dont suggest that we start making TV shows about any of you and saying it would be dumb. I don't recall attacking anyone around here personally, just disagreeing with their opinions.

Also I am not a Lucasite, There were things about the Prequels I LOATHED. There were a couple of Clone Wars episodes I didn't like at all and Indy IV was a farce that the English language is not adept enough to convey properly.

As far as there being enough unconditional Star Wars fans out there...I have no idea where you are seeing this. Even people that actually like the PT seem to need to apologise for doing so in their posts.

but Ill end on what started all this in the first place. What would you rather Lucasfilm do with previously established stories? Just ignore them? Isnt that part of the reason that a large number of you hate Lucas for?

edit: I went to this thread first before seeing the Top 100 thread, I need to add how awesome it was of everybody to do that. I was going to post there but only half the page loads. bummer

I think Axia was made from one of Go-Mer-Tonic's ribs. In the Garden of Gush.

Axia, we were just making a joke with the TV show thing, we didn't mean any harm by it. I promise. Go-Mer-Tonic was an old poster who use to defend absolutely everything Lucas did. When you jumped in and said that the LFL was awesome for the continuity thing, it reminded us of that. But really, Gomer was a pain in the ass and a bit of a troll who would start long arguments about everything. You are nothing like him.

Maybe I was wrong about the counter culture thing. Really, it is okay to admit there are things about Star Wars you don't like. No one will use it against you later as you once seemed to suggest in another thread. We are not at war, or even at odds here. We are just a bunch of fans discussing SW. You can like somethings, and dislike others all you want, no two of us here feel the same way about everything. I often profess my love for Shadows of the Empire, while if you have noticed, it is a pretty hated bit of EU around here. I don't care what they think about it, I love it.

Sorry if we made you feel bad about the TV show comment, I for one will try to be more careful about that in the future. This community is pretty small and I feel that every member around here is valuable (with the exception of trolls) and I'd hate for them to leave because they felt they are not welcome.

Teasing is a dying art. I am one of its last masters. You can hardly tease anyone these days because 9/10 people are so incredibly sensitive. I blame it on our warped society.

On the matter at hand, Lucas has said the EU is an alternate universe of sorts. So... what the hell does it matter if the prequels are contradicted? I think they need to let a circle of writers take the EU canon wherever the hell they want, without direct influence from Lucas or some obscure RPG dude from the stone age like The Boost brought up.

Like that'll ever happen.
