ADM, thanks for the awesome tips here. I'm in the process of ripping right now.

The questions: is Womble powerful enough to recreate Star Wars transitions? Would they stick out at all?

So, I see that the 6 channels of audio on my DVD are AC3, but when I rip with DVD decrypter, I get a VOB and IFO file and not 6 AC3s.

What am I missing here? Do I need to shell out the $70 for Womble?

Womble will not do the soft transitions. That is it's biggest drawback. My edit does not have them. I could do them in Vegas with the knowledge I now have, but it's not worth it to redo the whole thing for a few wipes for me. You, however, could use Vegas to just create the shots with wipes, encode those to M2V format, then splice those tidbits in where they belong. You'll have to do some precise measurements with your frames when you do it though.

As for your AC3, you need to demux the individual streams from each other when ripping.

Well, I tried ripping the TPM and AotC deleted scenes individually, but the audio is still out of sync. Any ideas? Again, I've done everything the step prescribes.

Thanks for the Womble clarification and the Vegas tip, ADM.

As for the AC3s, it's back to DVD Decrypt for me. Where'd I put that dunce cap? I know it's around here somewhere.

Johnboy, did you run the GOP fixer on the video?

Also, note any delay in the AC3 file. You might need to clip or expand it accordingly.

I ran it through the GOP Fixer. There is a delay on the AC3 files, but how do I know how many frames to cut? The delay for TPM's deleted scenes is 17 ms, which is less than one frame (and I can tell you just from watching it that it is off by more than that).

I'm at a loss at this point.

For correcting delays in audio tracks, I always use AC3 Delay Corrector. If you rip the track with DVD Decrypter, it'll automatically read the delay from the filename where DVD Decrypter notes it. Quite effective.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

That program only added one frame onto the beginning, so it is still far out of sync. I guess I'll just have to use trial and error. I don't know why it won't work for me.

I just had to reinstall my operating system and now when womble tries to export, it is extremely slow. In three minutes, eight seconds were encoded. Anybody know why this is, and how to fix it?

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Was Womble reinstalled from scratch too? Is DirectX installed? Only guesses.

So, I'm excited to see that I can actually get great video for my edit with ADM's guide, but now that I have my fixed MPEG in Womble(which ripped as an M2V file instead of an MPV) it skips on playback. Am I needing to do a "dgpulldown" or some such thing?

Have you ran the GOP fixer on the ripped video?

Yes, I have. I'm pretty sure I selected "Fix GOP Time Code Errors and PTS Errors (Read + Write)". If you can't think of anything else it might be, I'll try it again. Thanks for the help.

Okay, my problem seems to be solved. I have clean video playback now, but I had to use Womble's "MPEG GOP Fixer" tool setting "All Above: Scan, Fix and GOP resize" as opposed to the "Fix GOP Time Code and PTS Errors (Read + Write)" setting by itself.

Newbie question: I was disappointed to find that my DVD video for this rip is a letterboxed aspect ratio set in a 16x9 anamorphic frame. Is anything produced anamorphic on DVD aside from 16x9?
Author

16x9 is anamorphic.

So, a 2.4x1 ratio will always be letterboxed and set within a 16x9 frame?
Author
Time
Should be. It could be in a 4:3 with a ton more letterboxing (like the GOUT) but a 16x9 video window is an anamorphic source.

Okay. Cool. Good point about the GOUT. Things could definitely be worse. Thanks, ADM.
