A new Star Wars Trilogy on the way?

Yes, yes, yes! I am 100% for that.

Only please let Lucas write the story and someone else direct the movies and write the scripts. Then we would have another ESB.

Probably nothing will come of this. But if it does...take a deep breath and prepare yourself for more universe shrinking, unnecessary CGI, and prequel-style stupidity.

I agree with Anchorhead.  I couldn't care less.

There's always demand and money for Star Wars, so it's certainly possible this could be true.

I'd be willing to give Lucas another shot and hopefully next time he won't direct. I just hope he doesn't go all CGI TV "Clone Wars" on us, which uses CGI characters etc for everything.

FFS. Move on Lucas. If you want to make a sequel trilogy it should have commenced in 1986. Instead, any sequel trilogy now would wipe out 20 years of EU. That's not necessary a bad thing but thanks to the prequels we already have a load of EU retconning.

The sad thing is, this sounds all to plausible. The SE was only released to fund production of the prequels, now it looks like the 3D release is designed to fund the sequels.

Your brain just makes s**t up!

A fate worse than death? Having your head digitally replaced with that of Hayden Christensen!

Please NO!!!!!! Wait a couple decades and just reboot it. No Star Wars ANYTHING for 20 years, then release a new Star Wars Saga - start with Episode I, BUT use the freaking outline set out in ESB!!!! Obi-Wan was too old, NOT Anakin. Anakin's fall is supposed to be a surprise that no one saw coming, don't use Jar-Jar, make it more true to the OT. Then move on the Episodes 4-6, so this way they can use the same actors and keep things consistent. OT should be exactly the same - no differences, except take out the incestuous undertones and in twenty years CGI will look 100% seamless (compared to the 95% of Avatar). Just let Star Wars fade into the crowd for a good twenty years... seriously Lucas. Piss off.

Not going to think about it until more solid info comes out.  Right now it's still in the idea/theory phase.  When they start nailing down timeline and characters, then I'll pay more attention.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

I have no problem with this at all.

I would be happier if Lucas didn't write or direct them but let a more competent team put them together.

The PT was more important in many ways (I already had emotional investment in the stories of those characters) and that's already screwed up.

If the OT heroes are in there I hope he takes chances with them (make Leia go off the rails or something like that) don't let them be tied down by the EU.

I remember these sorts of headlines in magazines between 1983 and 1997 so I would be more astonished that they happen than if they actually turn out to be really good films.

I have a feeling it is all to knock James Cameron to the side. I don't like James Cameron's movies, but I could definitely see why George would get back into the game. He wants to knock Avatar out of the park, and I guarantee he will fail at it.

I would only watch it if it had good names behind it. Nobody with a decent career would touch it, unless they had creative input.

further out in the Star Wars timeline. And by giving space in the timeline, possibly even as far as 100 years or 1,000 years in the Star Wars universe future, Lucas avoids having to make these stories “fit in” with what the previous stories have told.

If this is the route taken, there could be promise. In the end, I don't want to see Hamill, Ford, and Fisher in any Star Wars more films. Indy 4 was full of "look who it is" moments, and it ruined it. NEW CHARACTERS, NEW CHARACTERS.

Just something tells me, he is going to bring back everybody's favorite characters to attract viewers. Yeah, I would go see it, but that doesn't mean I will like it.

GET RID OF RICK BERMAN!!!

And hire a real professional

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

There isn't any room in his established story for a sequel trilogy.

Unless...

He changes Return of the Jedi with some story elements that can carry over into a sequel trilogy.  I know, you are thinking "George would never change any of his movies".  Think again.

I remember the talk of a 9 part saga, but kinda strange when Jeremy Bulloch mentioned 9 parts to SW a few weeks ago at Invasion 3 in Belfast's W5.

He was there with Richard LeParmentier (Admiral Motti).

He doesn't mention it in this clip, but heres a bit anyway.

The man really doesn't know when to quit. Didn't he talk about leaving SW alone and doing small artsy weird movies??

Between the TV shows and movies, it seems SW is all he thinks about.

A couple of things do come to mind:

While the prequels sucked, they were profitable, however with god knows how many seasons of the Clone Wars and 50 hours of the live action TV show (plus the misterious comedy show that's also coming), SW is in danger of being overexposed. With the declining quality of each movie since Empire (and sadly there's no reason to believe this trend will stop), can a new trilogy really be profitable??

Also, we're talking something like 2018 (24 months after the ROTJ re-release). So the trilogy would be over by 2024. Some key people will no longer be with us probably. I mean Star Wars without John Williams, really??

Really, Star Wars is dead. It is becoming like a breakfast cereal. "The adults aint buyin' it, maybe we can get their kids to get them to."

The only way Star Wars can be saved is if it gets a Star Trek Generations treatment. Give it to somebody else.

Star Wars should be the same way. I have no problem with Lucas having creative input. I just don't think he should be god of the series anymore.

There is a plethora of directors and writers with good ideas, if they could just be allowed to take on the project.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

JJ Abrams is a great choice for writer. Christopher Nolan might be a good choice for director, it would be interesting to see where he would take it.

Ehm ... Rick Berman is the Star Trek guy, not the Star Wars guy

EDIT - sorry, I really should read the whole thread before answering :-)
