Emmy-nominated writer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll, Bachelorette) is currently developing a new untitled Star Wars series for Disney+. Headland will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the series, which adds to a growing list of Star Wars stories for Disney’s streaming platform including The Mandalorian, now in post-production on Season Two, and two other previously announced series: one based on Cassian Andor’s life prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and another following the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope.

A release date for Headland’s project have not yet been announced.

^ Amen to that! (though would that be Rian Johnson’s bag - a trilogy on that time line?)

^ cool ink of Ralph McQuarrie’s concept art of Leia - especially on the hand.

I hadn’t realised she is a lifelong fan of Star Wars, hope she does well.

No fate but what we make - apart from force dyads!

Is this the series that all the hate channels are posting on about feminism? I don’t click on them to avoid giving them views. They seem to be making a huge deal of it, what’s up with that?

According to the trades, it’s a martial arts centred show with a female lead.

I haven’t seen those videos, and I never intend to. But if I had to guess, it’s because she’s a woman, and they think all women working on movies and TV are “diversity hires”, therefore the feminists are taking over.

I’ll never understand how anyone can think like this.

My preferred saga experience:
TPM/AOTC/ROTS (Hal 9000), ANH/ESB/ROTJ (Despecialized), The Mandalorian,
TFA (Starlight), TLJ (Fallen Knight), TROS (Resurgence).
May the midichlorians be with you.

Variety posted an article a couple of weeks back - leaking the news that Leslye Headland had a Star Wars series in the works…

https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/star-wars-series-leslye-headland-disney-plus-1234587493

The 2nd paragraph in the article was seemingly enough to send some fans over the edge - especially the ‘emboldened’ part:-

“Details of the exact plot of the series are being kept under wraps, but sources say it will be a female-centric series that takes place in a different part of the “Star Wars” timeline than other projects. Headland is said to be attached to write and serve as showrunner on the series, with the show currently staffing.”

I imagine that, and the showrunner being female, possibly triggered accusations of ‘pandering’, ‘politics’, ‘forced diversity’, ‘feminist’, and the usual click-bait key-words that certain monetised youtube videos seem to love so much.

Pretty much a non-story (other than the need for fresh clicks on the usual baiting channels).

It’s quite likely that it’s tied to the high Republic era.

It’s a dumb knee-jerk reaction but then “female-centric” isn’t a narrative description. Certainly not one that should be in news like this. It would be more appropriate to actually say what the focus is; Jedi, Underworld, Military etc. So logically they must be doing this to stir up all the channels that keep ranting about that whole The Force Is Female schtick. Now there are only ever extreme reactions after all.

Exactly! If your selling point is the gender of the character than you’re story must be pretty shallow.

It can be pretty cool though to know from the getgo that the hero isn’t going to be Yet Another Straight White Man, so many series get announced with that and the default a clarification is appreciated imo.

Plot details will come, and then we can decide whether or not to be mad.

I don’t think they’re selling anything at this point. Likely just trying to make it clear that their television protagonists won’t be exclusively male, which has been the case thus far.

Your right it’s probably the only info that the media has about the show, anyway’s I’m psyched to learn what it’s about.

They might not even know what it’s about. If there evne is an idea. It seems like these projects get handed out so often to film makers now, some are likely to never materialise. Will the plans given to the Game of Thrones guys ever be used? Plus there’s the increasingly unlikely Rian trilogy.
