And it comes out tomorrow! Doesn’t seem like it will be a big thing, “Grogu and the Dust Bunnies”. A cute little short. But maybe we will see more if there is a lot of positivity around it.
Also, rocknroll, do you know how many of these projects have been officially confirmed by Lucasfilm and how many are reports? I feel like it is a running gag at this point about how Lucasfilm announces a project only for it to go nowhere, but I am curious how many of those are just insider reporting. I mean, it isn’t unusual for filmmakers to work on projects with studios only for them to never get off the ground, but regardless it seems like there are a high number of them coming out of Lucasfilm.

These are the only ones Lucasfilm announced directly:

Rian Johnson’s trilogy
Kevin Feige’s movie that Michael Waldron is writing
Taika Waititi’s movie (rumored to be a loose Dawn of the Jedi adaptation)
Rogue Squadron (originally for 2023 but now delayed indefinitely like everything else)

Projects can take a while in development. Sometimes the development doesn’t work out. This has been their way with films for quite some time so it all makes sense in a way. Basically just because they announce they are working on it, don’t count on seeing it.

While not officially announced, there’s also the Damon Lindelof project that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is attached to direct, rumored to take place post-TRoS.

So with the leaks that Ashoka and Skeleton Crew take place in what might be a new galaxy with more “magical” force-users, etc… What do we think this means for the film side of things?

The rumor claims that force users in this new space are more like magic wielders, and that we may have seen some of their species before. I think the original source frames ‘magic’ as a red herring, hinting at the night sisters, but I think it would actually make sense that this is where Yoda’s species comes from, and ultimately ties back into Mando returning Grogu to his (literal) kind later down the line.

Good thinking! I remember wanting that to be the case initially anyways. Also I remember hearing that Lucas himself helped Filoni and co. come up with a name for Yoda’s species.

I don’t hate that, depending on how they do it, but do we really need alternate timeline or multiverse stuff in Star Wars? That just makes it like every other sci-fi universe…

Hmmm. One shitty SW universe or several? Poison is poison, though I’d prefer to pick my own if it’s an option.

“Mythology is not a lie, mythology is poetry, it is metaphorical. It has been well said that mythology is the penultimate truth — penultimate because the ultimate cannot be put into words. It is beyond words. Beyond images, beyond that bounding rim of the Buddhist Wheel of Becoming. Mythology pitches the mind beyond that rim, to what can be known but not told.”

New “scoops” coming from a credible source (but take this all with a grain of salt, of course):

It seems that the plan is to still release three new Star Wars films in 2025, 2026 and 2027. These will all apparently be announced at Celebration in April. The first will be Lindelof’s film, which will start shooting in the summer. The new lead will be a POC man. Doesn’t look like Daisy is coming back for this one.

FWIW, Lucasfilm currently has flags planted for December 2025 and December 2027, but not December 2026 (that spot is still reserved for Avatar 4). So if we really are getting a movie in 2026, I guess it’ll be around Thanksgiving time? Can’t really see them going back to a summer release after what happened with Solo.

New Star Wars TV Show Rumored to Be Moving Forward With Fan-Favorite Producers - from ComicBook

Ghost Track 17

'There’s a rumor that the Star Wars TV Universe is about to get a little bit bigger. Word is that a new Star Wars TV project is moving forward into production, and that will be spearheaded by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, the core creative team behind Star Wars: The Mandalorian. Production Weekly has a listing for an “untitled Star Wars project,” which is not a new thing, exactly, as the uncertainty of the Star Wars franchise in the last few years has seen numerous movie and TV projects going into production, with little-to-no information about them. However, this latest one is different, as it has a working title and a list of producers attached.

This new Star Wars TV project is going under the working title of Ghost Track 17, which (as always) is probably a fun inside joke with the crew, that the public doesn’t fully comprehend. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are listed as producers.

While this rumor is now circulating on Star Wars sites it’s been noted that Internet scooper Daniel RPK recently dropped a Patreon scoop that Filoni and Favreau were working on a Star Wars series going by “Ghost Track 17” – with the added note that it would be a series set in the “MandoVerse” corner of Star Wars.’

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Rogue Squadron could be one of the slots?

Maybe Taika Waititi’s film as well, or is that a bit early?

The source (Jeff Sneider) says the Taika and Feige films are pretty much dead. He also just clarified that the new lead will be a POC woman, not a man.
