A New Trope?

I'd like to propose a new verb in reference to GL's Bizarro-Midas touch he has exhibited in the last 10-15 years.

george (v.) - to foul up a creative work, usually but not limited to film, in a way which preserves (in some cases enhances) the superficial points of resemblance but makes a complete hash of all of the established characters and/or plot.

Example: If you ask me, "Rocky V" completely georged the Rocky franchise.

Who's with me? Let's get george into the lexicon! Most will use it and have no idea of its origin, whereas those of us in the know can share a knowing smile whe we hear it.

So to see if I have this right, I would say something like, "Man, Bush just georged the economy."

Weird.

Me and some of my buddies have been using the term "pulled a George" for years. It would be pretty funny to see the term "georged" take hold. So, who is going to enter this one into wikipedia? That would make it offcial, right? Ah, george it! Who needs wikipedia.

I've heard people say "Lucased" or "Lucas-ized".

at camp we had this guy named chief. He took a huge smelly crap one day and now we say, "we need to take a chief" or "I just cheifed my self."

Did the guy actually have the first name Chief? Because those are the kind of guys who usually grow up to commit parricide.

I've heard that one myself.

When I was a teen we used to call people a "Larry." Kind of another word for doofus.

(Don't tell my Uncle Larry or my Brother Larry that I said this.)

I was going to sugest someone create a page over at the Urban Dictionary but they already have an entry called George.

They do however have some quite acurate definitions on George Lucas, George Lucas Syndrome and George Lucasized.

I'm sure there's more but I'll let you find them.

I think that "Georged" is a bit too general. George who? George Washington? George Clooney? LOL!

Not too many people have the name Lucas.

That's true, but I like that "george" has an inside connotation to us in the OUT community whereas most using it wouldn't even be aware. Lucas is less subtle.

Hmm, that's nicely elitist, but perhaps not elitist enough. Does he have a middle name? :)

His middle name is Walton.

George or georged, just sounds so much better than Lucased. "They sure georged that movie up with the new DVD release!" sounds a lot better than say, "They really lucasized that movie with the last DVD release" or "They sure lucased that release!" or even, "Man, did you see that new DVD release, talk about a walton of a release!"

I think we should stick to george. But, I think, as sluggo may or may not have already pointed out, it is very likely people will take it as a reference to Gee Dubbaya.

On a side note, George Lucas' wikipedia page had a link to this guys wikipedia page, Gyogy Lukacs, of whom I am now a huge fan.

Hmmm...Lucas is also a George W. I guess Bush was a great president 30 years ago.

I' m Surpised Lucash or "George Lucas raped our childhood" has not been added to the Public Lexicon yet, lol.

The phrase was actually coined by that Altman guy who directed free enterprise. After he saw the special edition of star wars in 1997 he said something like " Wow that was like watching 2 hours of your childhood being raped".  THe guy who has never appologized for being a bigger star trek fan than a star wars fan.  The guy who Likes Kirk Better than Han Solo, fantasized Kirk kicking solos ass.  Thinks Kirk is a cooler dude and more of a ladies man than han, in essense an uber nerd who needs to fucking get a life.

The KIng Midas Myth Reference is too funny.  Everything MIdas Touched Turned to Gold because of a wish made of avarice, so it was a curse.  In comparison Everything Lucas has touched since 1994 has turned to shit instead of Gold.  But the avarice and greed of a king midas who is selfish and greedy and a rich prick may hit too close for comfort.
