A New Hope - Reimagined — Page 3

Was leaving in “You were the chosen one” intentional? It kind of feels really out of place if you’re watching this without having seen the prequels first.

Link will be available later today:

New version changes:

  • Solo style text soft-intro comes on screen (set to music building up) - appears line-by-line:
    Screen-Shot-2019-05-30-at-11-02-42-AM.jpg

  • Totally new 10 minute intro/prologue added - a completely edited fast-paced Battle of Scarif scene - totally recut and rebuilt - showing this scene really raises the stakes of the conflict in the galax and adds depth and tension to the ANH intro when we get to it

  • At the end of the prologue we see the Tantive escape into hyperspace after receiving the plans…and the screen goes blank

  • "A long time ago… " text comes on screen…

-ANH starts

I’m really excited for people t check this out… it’s definitely a fun alternate way to watch ANH

I agree and I’m one step ahead of you - the “you were the Chosen One!” is gone in the latest version (no more prequel lines)

I’ve been meaning to cut that but haven’t had time to rebuild the audio for the scene 😃

Ah, makes sense. I really admire your dedication to putting so much work into this, and getting the edits done so quickly. This is shaping up to be my go-to version of ANH.

New version (with prologue) is up on my site (and link is ready for PMs) - hope everybody enjoys this one!

Please request the site link - that way, you can always have access to the latest version. As with the Clean Cut, I just keep improving the edit, so I’m updating the file frequently… it’s definitely close to final at this point. Rendering a version now with some updated sound fx to enhance the scenes I rebuilt from scratch - really makes a difference. Up soon… I’ll add a note on the site when I updated the file last, so you guys can make sure you have the latest.

I’m loving this edit! One teeny tiny thing I noticed, though. During the battle of Scarif, one of the soldiers shouts out “for Jedha!” during the battle. Since the prologue never shows or makes any other reference to Jedha, it feels a little odd. I don’t know if it’s worth the trouble of editing or muting in the next version, but I thought I’d mention it.

That’s funny you caught that because I thought the same when I watched it but it was kinda tough to cut out of the soundtrack (maybe i can mask it somehow) I’m still up in the air about it - if there is another version, I’ll give it a try but I think this is it for a while! I go on these editing marathons and then i need a break lol I’m glad you were lovin it!! i think it’s a fun watch!

This might be sacrilegious, but what about instead of an opening crawl, try to use prequel and spin-off footage to create a crawl in more of a “show don’t tell scenario”

Kinda like the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring

I’ve long wanted to see some short scene of the plans being stolen before the movie proper starts, so now I imagine clips from Rogue One such as Gold Leader going into battle and the Raddus receiving the plans cut into a short, impactful scene. Cut to “A Long Time Ago” then the crawl explaining what we just saw.

Your idea has come to fruition, so if you haven’t already, definitely check out my latest cut!

I like it.

2 pieces of hopefully helpful critique:

Darth Vader gets on the ship before the storm troopers somehow. Then he appears later coming through the entrance that the storm troopers came through. Can it be possible to show him come through the entrance after the storm troopers and then cut to him messing people up in the hall and then cut to the princess capture and then go back to Vader interrogating… or some version of that basically to show him come through with the storm troopers then he can go off and do his thing in the hall and then do the other stuff after they take control of the ship.

The other one is a little trickier. Why are the plans on the ship in the first place? Why didn’t they just copy the plans and send them to every ship? They could beam the plans from the tower but there was no ship that could do the same thing? Why did Darth Vader find this particular ship rather than all the other ships that left the battle? Where did all the other ships go? Where were they taking the plans and why? These things could be explained together in the crawl. Maybe the plans could be somehow traceable and they knew that. Or only one copy of the plans can exist, all others become corrupt. They decided to not duplicate them for some reason. Instead they gave them to a councilor ship that may be able to slip through with a young powerful ambassador’s privileges. They wanted to get them to the base on Yavin to analyze them and see if they can mount a serious attack against it. So how did the ambasador’s ship have a single copy and how did Vader find it?

These are some good questions! but some of this is going to have to be left to the imagination - just like some of the inconsistencies between the end of Rogue One and the beginning of ANH. In this version, the thought is that Vader was sent in first to intimidate the rebels, and then locked out. Next, the stormtroopers came in another door and Vader came after them because it took time for him to actually get to the other door. I’d imagine the Tantive has more than one entrance on a ship that big. That’s the way I imagined it anyway. Like I said, we’re going to have to use our imagination on this one - suspend your disbelief and enjoy this alternate take on the story 😃

New version coming soon -

  • I’ve placed the ‘a long time ago…’ before the opening solo-style text… once the Tantive takes off into hyperspace and the screen goes black… the ‘star wars’ logo pops up… much more dramatic now.

  • I’ve also now omitted the ‘For Jedha!!’ war cry.

  • I’ve added a new scene of the Falcon actually DOING ‘maneuvers’ right after Han says he knows a few… naturally. The Star Destroyers actually cut him off (as we hear him say) and he flies the falcon OVER them… with TIEs in close pursuit. The TIEs fire on the falcon and we cut back to the cockpit with Han saying "here’s where the fun begins)

  • I also added Petrovelly’s falcon shot leaving Tatooine because I really wanted a better shot than the one in the original - especially considering the new ‘maneuvers’ clip. (I messaged him to ask permission- if he responds for me to take it out, I will.) For now, it’s a tentative place-holder - but the credit for the shot definitely goes to him

  • I’ve also sharpened the RO and SC.38 clips to improve the quality.

  • I added a U-wing to the cover art 😃

Check it out soon…

It was established in ANH that the Tantive IV received transmissions, not a hard copy of the plans, so there’s already a huge inconsistency in the canon version. So keep that in mind.

But as for why they didn’t send the plans to every ship…who’s to say they didn’t and that the Empire didn’t hunt them all down?
