I just hope they don't waste the show's potentional--if it gets renewed--on more inane episodes about "Snu'Snu"...

I just hope it gets a real time slot. Sunday at 7 pm during NFL season = nearly automatic pre-emption by the end of the foosball game on the East Coast. After a while of the show never being on, I just considered myself lucky if I happened to catch it during the spring or summer. I know plenty of other folks who felt the same way, and that's part of why the Cartoon Network ratings and DVD sales have been so good.

I finally got the Vol. 4 DVD set for Christmas (thanks, Mom) so now my collection is complete, but I'd love to see more.

How can FOX be so dumb to cancel Family Guy and Futurama, and suddenly want it to come back?

It's all about the $$$$. I suppose they originally thought they needed to move on to something new and "better." But when they reallized that the audience stayed true to the shows, they wanted to bring the shows back in order to roll in the profit.

Well, I hope this works out. Too bad they won't do the same for Firefly.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Because the ratings were pitiful for each show during their initial runs. They weren't bringing in enough ad revenue. However, when they came out on DVD, they started selling like gangbusters. Family Guy remains one of the top five TV shows on DVD ever. Those sales figures were enough to convince FOX execs to resurrect it. Apparently the same must be happening with Futurama as well. Dunno the DVD sales figures though.

If they do bring them back (let's hope they do), perhaps they'll give them both a decent timeslot and keep to it - as well as some advertising for their returns.

If there's anything FOX should do is cancel those new bullshit utter crap brand new Simpsons episodes.

And the sad part is, even if it gets back, it'll take ages for Fox Brazil to show it. If at all.

I am one of the biggest Futurama freaks out there, but I don't want the show come back in "show" form. I had heard talks from Matt himself that said he wanted to end the show by making 3 movies and ending it like that, a la "Star Wars trilogy" or something like that.

Family Guy has only be brought back to life for less than a year and the show is already starting to get sour. Recently the episodes have just been, "Hey, remember that one time when I...(cut to some knock on pop-culture). Yeah, and that one time when Stewie and I...(cut to some other reference)." There is no more substance to that show anymore. Where the hell is the plot?

I can easily see Futurama going down that path. I say, let the show die and bring on the feature length movies!!

Wasn't Family Guy ALWAYS about random pop culture references and nonsensical plots?

I thought that was their gimmick.

What is with Fox bringing shows back from the dead? I liked Futurama, but I'd rather see them renew Arrested Development than try to bring back Futurama. Shows lose momentum if they've been off the air too long, and in the case of the Simpsons, if they've been on the air too bloody long.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I'm not sure if it's sour so much as the writers were strained putting together scripts for both the season and the Stewie movie simultaneously. I'm hoping that next season is better as this fifth season has sucked pretty badly. Just remember that the new episodes that have been on since May have actually been two different seasons. The first season (technically the "fourth" season) running from May until the end of July and the more recent episodes constituting the fifth season. I thought the fourth season was pretty decent, but the fifth has sucked. In fact, even American Dad has been more reliably funny than the fifth season of Family Guy.

Yeah, I never thought I'd say it, but Simpsons isn't so great anymore.

Yeah, but there is too much of a good thing. In the past, you'd have a main plot, and, every so often, they'd cut away to the nonsequiter flashbacks, and it'd be funny. Now, you barely have a plot because all the flashbacks constitute the entire episode.

It's like how the Fonz was a cooler character on Happy Days when he was a minor character. Then they made him the star, and it wasn't as good.

I AGREE. THE SIMPSONS SHOULD HAVE ENDED A FEW SEASONS AGO.

I understand the concept of a show jumping the shark, but what I don't get is this:

What was so terrible about the scene in Wonder Years where he jumps the shark that has given the term such a pop-culture status?

Wonder Years? Wasn't it Happy Days?

Jumping the Shark means when a series gets to a point where the show begins to go downfall, usually due to some change on the thematics or the plot, or a character change.
