Wired or WiFi.

The server is wired but the Apple TV is wireless. I don’t think it’s a buffering issue though. There seems to be an issue with the file on certain video players based on everyone else’s comments. Some said they were able to fix it by remuxing but that hasn’t worked for me.

Sorry to hear. Just some thoughts:

• when playing, check your Plex server, does it show if it is transcoding audio and or video? Is it a cpu speed issue?

Thanks, yeah I saw that link. My server says ‘direct stream’ for the video and transcoding for the audio. Are you able to play it with a similar setup?

I don’t have the right equipment. I have a wired Roku 4210x2, so it’s 1080p only. But it mostly can play the 4K, but with lots off buffering during busy scenes as my i3 stuggles to keep up with the transcoding.

The only thing that strikes me with those two screenshots right away is the amount of edge ringing. Especially visible in the shot of Leia. Now I don’t know which filters (or even software) you’re using to do it, but if you add sharpening after the DNR, I guess it’s better to not do that. At least from my experience of experimenting with such things in avisynth a few years ago, I always got the best result by sharpening on grain level before applying a filter and then blurring it back so to speak. Msharpen(1).Blur(0.4) was the method I used for grain level sharpness back then.

It would be interesting to see some shots from your DNR version in fast moving scenes. I remember mvtools in avisynth was never good at handling that, at least. Now of course I never tried it on something with such high resolution either.

Oh and sorry if I’ve missed any previous info. This project made me jump back on the forum to check it out. I’ve had a few very rough years and this sparked my interest in SW restoration projects a bit again.

English 2.0 preferred…

That’s the track that would be most true to the actual track that was on the Technicolor print, right?
Either way, why do they say “2018” at the end? Has someone done some kind of better rip of it from the LD?

^ Yeah,that’s it exactly. The 2018 version offers a small (but welcome) increase in fidelity.

The most amazing part of this post is that no two examples are even CLOSE to looking “similar” in color grading. But I definitely know which one is my favorite. 😃

In my opinion, the accuracy of the 4k77 version is similar to Blu-Ray. 4k is not really sharper than 2k (4k does not help much given the grain on the film).

This new 4k77 version has very natural and less aggressive colors than the BR or the DeEd 2.7, but the SiverScreen Edition(TN1) is still my favorite because it is less cropped and keeps the full width of the film (there is 11% more image than on the 4k77 version).

Maybe the SSE didn’t need as much motion correction as 4K77? I know it takes some cropping to achieve a more stable motion. Or maybe the “normal” 35mm prints like the one SSE is sourced from were less cropped than the Technicolor prints?

EDIT: After looking at a few shots from the previews I have it at least looks like the source for 4K77 was jumping around a LOT. It’s not strange they had to crop it to keep a stable motion.

The only comparison I could make is this, the one on top is most likely the source for 4K77, even though the very few preview pics I have are very compressed:

This also shows they did an amazing job on cleaning it up and correcting the colors. I’d actually love to see an official before/after comparison of some shots. 😃

This was an accidental double post but I’ll use it to post one more comparison of a shot they had to crop a lot less. Looks like it was done to get the most out of every shot while stabilizing them.

Very correct. I looked at a couple photos from the Senator screening and it’s amazing how much more can be seen in 4K77. When screened there it cropped out a lot more especially on the sides.
