This is the first I've heard of this.

Good luck to the people that will have to wait forever, for vapourware and announcements of a hypothetical release.
Disney's silence is the best thing that has happened to the original Star Wars trilogy in a long time.
We'll be happily working on our own, and enjoying the results along with everyone else that has the patience to wait for it, and finally get to see Star Wars receive the respect and treatment it deserves.

Yet if only a very few people can get it, it becomes irrelevant. I have respect for what you guys do, but this isn't going to help. Saying Disney will never do it right is not going to make them want to try.
Look at Disney's approach right now. The worst of the PT/SE fans are lashing out against TFA teaser, which means they are scared. Emphasizing the OOT techniques at the main Celebration panel. Clive Revill was there.
It might take a while, but it is closer to happening now that it was since 2004.
It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

It's not worth getting a token Subpar barebones release of the OOT, because it deserves much more comprehensive treatment. In the end, it would be better to get nothing from them
Uh, no.
This.
This.
Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

For the record I've said nothing bad about TFA...
[ Scanning stuff since 2015 ]
I haven't heard anything about the trailer yet, but I have seen a lot of TFN PT fanboys whine about how a Lucas-free movie is something they refuse to accept.
The Person in Question
Yep, some dismiss it as "fan fiction". An absurd claim.
"For Star Wars to return to its roots it must be based more on emotion than explanation." -- J.J. Abrams
Are these the same people who are mad at Disney for the EU being rebranded as Legends? I can't keep track of all these factions anymore...

Nope, they are the ones who think that the ST is unnecessary because Star Wars is 1-6, aka the Tragedy of Darth Vader. They also want the Clone Wars brought back, because that is apparently necessary.
They are also the ones who dismiss any good thoughts on TFA as "nostalgia."

Those who do that (I am sure there are not many of them anyway) are primarily Lucas fans who probably feel jealous of the new film because Lucas is not on board, and mostly because the new trilogy will most likely end up being much better than PT.

I hate the SEs more than the prequels because the SEs have prevented us from viewing the OOT.

It was not SE that prevented you from getting OOT in HD. It was Lucas who did that.
真実
Yup, they could have easily let us have both versions for us to choose, but lucas decided not to.
That's a main reason for why I think we'll see the HD OOT soon. Lucas was the only one opposed to its release. Even Rick McCallum said he hoped Lucas would release it someday

The timeframe of TCW was limited even if they had gone a couple more years. Once Ashoka had left the Jedi, we weren't too far off from the events of ROTS. Rebels is shaping up as a fine continuation.
And I really don't understand why nostalgia is a dirty word to these people. Lucas made tons of moolah on nostalgia for his hotrod teen years, and nostalgia for Flash Gordon and cliffhanger serials.

At Celebration this year Dave Filoni revealed they had already worked out how to end The Clone Wars. It was to continue into the events of ROTS.
Sounded to me like they were planning on only going to season 8 or possibly just a full season 7. So they got cut off right as they were winding down. Which is why I'd still like to see them finish what they had started. (Bonus: Ahsoka leaving the order wasn't supposed to be her departure from the series)
So, they might have covered Palpatine's kidnapping by Grevious as already seen in the TCW micro series?

I think there was something with Rex and how he managed to get the gizmo out of his brain.

Wasn't this thread about a 4K restoration of Star Wars?
Yes, but now we're waiting for news on the 8K restoration. ;)

The lads from makingstarwars.net, for whatever it's worth, told me at Celebration that there was "no chance", as albeit selling commercial rights, "Lucas retains final cut".
So we shall see. Fingers perenially crossed!

To bring this thread back around, this is what makes me think the 4k version (undoubtedly a new 4k SE) will be released in some form or another in the near future, even if it was only done as a fresh image harvest for the 3D conversion. Even if there was no mention of it at the convention, I wouldn't be surprised if they announce closer to TFA's release that there will be all-day saga marathons in theaters on December 17th.
Even if Lucas retains "final cut," I don't see that precluding an OOT restoration necessarily. I mean, he released it on dvd, didn't he? He just refused to spend a single dime remastering it.

I don't think this translates to a "right to prevent release of theatrical versions".

We're not ever going to get our hopes up for a release or news about it, and neither should anyone else.
These rumors are just that and nothing more. If it never happens, it was not meant to be.
There will be enough alternatives to replace it.
