4K restoration on Star Wars — Page 56

Looks better but still not close to right.

Probably a good idea for that scene to die in a fire anyway, because it's unnecessary after the scene between Han and Greedo.

Jabba's size never seemed right to me in that scene. Is he actually the same size there as he is in RotJ, or did they make him too small?

I definitely think they made him too small.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

It sits better with the original material but the colars are still wrong.

He looks like he is made of twiglet and his eyes make him look like he has hepatitis.

I thought I remember hearing or reading (I think from Lucas' own mouth) that they deliberately made him smaller so his moving on his own would be more believable before he became the fat slug he is in ROTJ.

So losing Han to the Rebels depressed him so much he let himself go and got hooked on frogs?

I found an interesting post that Harmy made in another thread years ago:

Harmy said:

Here are a few funny pictures from the 2004 DVD chapter menu:

This is the 2004 ANH scene selection menu. The images don't match the movie on the same disc. This, combined with Empire of Dreams, shows that something other than the 2004 and 2011 versions exists at LFL.

That's really odd, especially since the sunset was altered before the DVD.

The company that was contracted to do the menus for the 2004 release talked about this at the time. Lowry was still working on the films when they had to have the menus done so they based all of the their work on a different transfer provided to them by Lucasfilm. I'm blanking on the name of the company at the moment.

It may have been the laserdiscs for all we know. I really have no idea though

We've gone through this before, I think. Van Ling used a separate scan/color-correction of the 1997 SEs for the DVD menus since the 2004 master was still in progress.

That there's a digital scan of Shaw as ghost Anakin makes me very happy.

Well, they had to plaster Hayden's head on top somehow!

Didn't you know? They used scissors, glue, and the original negative for that.

Y'know, if this 4k job was for the SE, I wonder how they would go about re-doing stuff like Ian as the Emperor's hologram and Hayden's head on Shaw's body.

Maybe they would just take those shots as they are and plug them right into the new version? The TPM blu-ray did the same thing with the lower-res added scenes from the dvd and, from what I heard, it still looked like that even in the theatrically-released 3D version.

The stuff that was added for the dvd was probably finished at greater-than-dvd resolution, maybe even full 2k, but those scenes exhibit aliasing and other issues compared to the rest of the blu-ray.

Why do they have to be compared in order to exhibit those issues? ;)

So, no official line on this? I have to admit that the rumor sounded too good to be true, but I guess we'll see. I'd comb the thread, but the forum software is still such that I can't go through my old posts and then align to where they are in threads like I can on most other forums, follow a user, search for specific things, etc, and have come to the conclusion that this is just the software we're going to be stuck with :p. I'm just popping back in, I guess. It's late, hopefully this post is semi-coherent.

And why do we have no search function?! Seriously, we're stuck in the Usenet era :p.

Nothing definitive yet, unfortunately. :o/

To be fair though you wouldn't expect anything to be announced yet.

Possibly at Star Wars Celebration for an autumn release?
