27 discs?!?

Not that outrageous when you think of it. For each title, probably one 4K disc of just the movie, plus 2 BDs, one with the movie and some extras, and one with just special features.

All them discs and no OOT?

They may have every single documentary, featurette and deleted scene from the entire saga.

The name’s Lawson. Noah Lawson.

27-disc 4K Skywalker Saga to street 3/31/2020.

(Includes very short, non-spoiler comments on Rise of Skywalker)

That is going to be SUPER expensive, but everyone will buy it regardless.

Nope. I have no need or want for anything on any those 27 discs.

But they still won’t have the movies I wanna watch.

My friend at the Saga Marathon says they’re all the 2K versions. They didn’t make DCP of the Disney+ versions.

Well that poops.

That just… doesn’t make any sense.

Which is a thing I don’t know why it still surprises me to say. “I was wrong” and “That doesn’t make any sense” are phrases that have gotten heavy, heavy workouts in the last 10 or so years, haha.

Yeah, this is dumb and doesn’t make any sense at all. Making DCPs is super easy and they should have been made at the same time as the IMFs for Disney+.

Very interesting! Charles Bunnag, one of the colorists of the new 4K HDR Disney+ version of the Original Trilogy, as well as “The Mandalorian,” has spoken regarding the negative claims that the Disney+ HDR is “fake.” There’s even an interesting comment from Marc Wielage (colorist of the 2004 versions). https://mixinglight.com/color-tutorial/is-the-disney-series-the-mandalorian-fake-hdr/

The podcast in the link there is very interesting, I recommend everyone who’s interested in HDR give it a listen.

You’d be surprised how many things either do or don’t get DCPs made-and then its a crapshoot if they ever screen them anywhere. On the flipside many things exist in 4K DCPs or restorations and never get a disc release such as Disney sitting on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for seven years.

I’m quite surprised that these aren’t merely the 2011 BD masters tweaked a bit. I’m not going to get Disney+ but it does seem like they at least used 97SE materials as a base source to make a higher res scan and this is likely the Reliance stuff we’ve been debating over for some time now finally getting its first appearance. The color in the shots posted so far is remarkably improved and closer to theatrical presentations that we are aware of.

I’m almost positive this is what will show up in new BD/4K releases. Still no OOT for now but if that does happen at some point it will likely be treated as a limited exclusive in a boxset release and be a non-researched presentation that will re-open the GOUT floodgates. What would the sequel be called? DisGOUT, GOUT+, MouseGOUT…possibilities are endless.

It’s confirmed that it’s the Reliance scan, with the master prepared back in 2012 under Lucas’ supervision. They gave it a new HDR grade this year by the same guy who graded The Mandalorian, but otherwise it’s the same thing they’ve had ready to go for 7 years (4K scan from the 1997 negative with 2004/2011 changes recreated in 4K, plus Lucas’ final 2012 tweak to the Greedo scene).

Yeah, it’s a great one. I loved it too. I’m actually a subscriber to MixingLight, because their insights are incredibly helpful with my work. They had another podcast a couple of years ago talking with the colorist of the 2004 SE, and in that podcast the colorist actually talks about it being a myth that Lucasfilm doesn’t have the theatrical OT negatives or prints anymore, because he actually used them in his restoration. I went back and tried to find it, and the listing for that podcast is still there but the link is broken. I’ll reach out to them and see if they can fix it. It’s a great listen.

I’m seeing the word “final” a lot when you all are discussing this latest round of edits. Some people never learn haha…

On this new box set here are the things I think would be good to include…

All Rouge One Deleted scenes. Or alternate Rough Cut.

Lando Pull Luke across the Falcon from ESB.

Missing Shoot out scenes after Slave 1 departs ESB.

Stormtrooper riding on original creature effects Dewback Star Wars Lobby Card.

Original camera Mos Eisley shots of Landspeeders going through the checkpoints and so on Star Wars.

Sith Lord Conference Room Extended scene Star Wars

Can’t think of any more at the moment.

Lucas is the one who’s never satisfied. Disney doesn’t even care enough to pay attention to which version is being seen today. They won’t change it. That’s what Kennedy meant when she said “They’re his movies and we’re not going to change them.”
