I don’t see why Disney would even have it listed on their slate (even cryptically like that). Fox owns the original movie in perpetuity. I think Disney would want to focus on stuff that’s 100% theirs.

Fox owns the distribution rights, not the film. I have no idea how big of a slice that cuts from Disney. But if it’s something that cannot be changed, and profits can be generated from the property despite the distribution rights, I do not see why they would not pursue that. Obviously, the films with expiring distribution rights make more sense to wait on.
Not to throw fuel on the fire but, considering the rumor about July 28th being a theatrical re-release of the original…
This magazine is coming out July 25. Now, it could totally be coincidence but isn’t it a bit strange that a 40th Anniversary book is coming out 3 days before this supposed theatrical re-release? Instead of in May?
First I’m hearing about this rumor. Was it brought up earlier in the thread or did news (well, rumor) of it just break somewhere else?
The theory came from the Disney schedule where something is mysteriously being released by Disney on July 28th - Untitled Fairy Tale. They wouldn’t say what it was.
The Untitled Fairy Tale could be a movie called Magic Camp
Produced by Disney. Scheduled for release in 2017.
Which has a title and isn’t a fairy tale.
And just started filming? No chance.

Yeah, but I just don’t see why Disney would be including something they only own the rights to retroactively (and then only partially) in a discussion of their upcoming slate of films that are otherwise their own wholly owned original IP.

Let’s look at the clues:
Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.
The hallmark of a corrupt leader: Being surrounded by yes men.
‘The best visual effects in the world will not compensate for a story told badly.’ - V.E.S.
‘Star Wars is a buffet, enjoy the stuff you want, and leave the rest.’ - SilverWook
But imagine how many “circle is now complete” puns will be thrown around if we were given the special editions on the 20th anniversary and then the originals again on the 40th.
A theatrical re-release of an old movie would only happen during the slower times of the year anyway. The '97 SE was late January to mid March. TPM 3D was February. Titanic and Jurassic Park were April. Disney put out the first two Toy Story movies in 3D during the early Fall, which is the same time Lucasfilm was going to put out AotC/RotS in 2013 before cancelling their release.
Why would a presumably limited rerelease of the original Star Wars movies even be on their timeline of blockbusters?

It wouldn’t, which is exactly what I said several posts back.
I’m watching the Rogue One bonus featurettes and during the K-2SO one they showed a clip from the original film that didn’t look like the blu ray. It’s R2 and 3PO on the Tantive and I think it looked better than the blu, but it’s been a while since I’ve looked at the blu.
.
I watched that today too, but I was too distracted by how weird it was to see that clip without the music to pay much attention to the image. I’ll have to look out for it next time.

Clip of Tarkin/Leia from SW77 was just shown in The Empire featurette. It looks better that the blu as well, but again, this is just based on my memory.

Snapshot of OT footage in Bonus Materials. This looks like the Blu-ray, but overly cropped!

Can someone post a screenshot of that shot from the BD?
Is it possible they took certain shots from the bd and others from the RMW restoration?

Of course it’s ‘possible,’ but why would you?
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.
Looks like they used the 2011 version of A New Hope for those Rogue One featurettes
Don’t be shocked if we get the special editions 4k mastered.
Hm. My eyes and memory decieved me, it seems.
.
I read an article on the CGI Tarkin on fxguide.com a few months ago. In said article, they used an image from A New Hope which to me clearly looked like it was from a new scan:

Interesting. I saw what you’re talking about. That still is definitely not from the Blu-Ray
They may have just not wanted to use footage from a release that didn’t yet exist in a featurette.
They got that frame from here: http://www.jedi1.net/

Thanks for clearing that up.
I don’t see the point in re-relasing the prequels in 4K. Their special effects are so dated, it would look like a cartoon with real people.
