If anyone's interested the 3D transfer mentioned above can be found by doing a BIN search for:

Forget about the above search - it's passworded. Waste of download time :/

I wouldn't bother with it anyway. They have used XVID for this and isn't a very good encode. Not only that but the 3D is impossible to watch without feeling sick from a banging headache after the first few minutes. For some reason there are some very strange things going on with the left eye. The crawl is almost unreadable in 3D as its totally distorted.this causes hell with the 3D (just click on images to view full size)

Every time a shot ends in a scene you get 1 frame on the right side from the next shot because of the method used

The 3D version of EPV has the same problems too

Ah that's a shame. I'll just delete those files then (not much good without the password at any rate lol!). I purchased a 1080p HD projector a few months ago and (for a bit of fun) I'd like to try some (old school red & blue style) 3D conversions on the 'big' screen.

I might give this a shot - it has a 14 day free trial:

Didn't you have a 3D scene on your Star Wars Revisited disc come to think of it? I'll get my copy out and give that a try this evening :)

I think showing TPM in 3D is a violation of the Geneva convention.

Absolutely, even though it'll be hard work suffering through all it's many miss-steps that make me cringe!

I'm mainly interested in getting an idea of just how successful Lucasfilm's chosen 'conversion' company has been with this effort...to get an idea of what to expect when the Original Trilogy's ('Special Edition') re-release comes around eventually.  Hopefully, the technology/'conversion' company will improve even more over the next couple of years, so that the OT release looks the best of the lot where this process is concerned.

Of course, I'm keeping my expectations low concerning this first release...  Still, at least there's the replacement 'Yoda' footage to look forward to, I guess. :)

Will the 3-D glasses be brown?

Cos that movie is s***. It opens with 2 Jedi Knights having a cup of tea, a sit-down and a chat for Chrissakes!

So, no. In my case it's definitely not. No more $ for George.

I'll probably end up springing to go see the OT in 2015, '16, and '17. Even though it'll be the contaminated versions, it'll still be sweet to see the OT on the big screen.

But it will be one cold day in hell before I spend another single solitary cent on the PT, 3d or no.

While TPM has it's flaws, the fact nothing blows up or dies in the first 4 1/2 minutes doesn't seem like a major problem for me.

Yeah, the first frame/last frame of any shot is a head-ache inducing problem given the technique they're using.  Do TVs that have 2D->3D on the fly converters suffer from the same thing, I wonder?

Even so, given some TLC, the first/last frame of a cut could be simply replaced with the same shot the other eye is getting.  You'd lose 3D for a whole frame, but I think the experience would be less jarring than one eye seeing the last frame of the previous cut and the other eye seeing the first frame of a new cut.

And the picture quality of the files is pretty poor.  But once you throw red and blue colour washes over the picture and then red/blue glasses on your face... I have to say the PQ is the least of your problems.

And finally: the password.  I have the password, but Nerf- it looks like you already deleted your files.  I'd post it here, but I can't remember what the rules have to say about that.  Can I post that here?  Or you can just PM me.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

Indeed. RotJ is the same thing, but with way more than 4 1/2 minutes.

Well, they finally set the date. I had hoped this would fall through somehow. Never will I see a 3D Star Wars . As I've said before, this is what made me completely lose faith (not that there was much) in Lucasfilm and George. It is the ultimate cash grab and an insult.

Just wanted to show what the official site's announcement of this looks like -  http://starwars.com/movies/saga/prime_focus_star_wars_3d/index.html

Out of the various 'conversion' companies out there, I gotta say that the one responsible for the 'CLASH OF THE TITANS' mess (not mentioned, funnily enough) would not have been my first choice...

And GL's claim that "I'm very happy with the results I've been seeing on Episode I" doesn't automatically fill me with confidence about their involvement.

It's not clear just how much input they had in some of the other titles mentioned, but I just hope that 'Prime Focus' have got their act together for the saga's release.  And here's their site announcement -  http://www.primefocusworld.com

Clash of the Titans was not meant to be in 3D until very soon before its release. One of the reasons that films like Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans looked pretty poor in 3D was because the decision to convert them came very late in post production, due to the recent success of Avatar and the just-happened rush to get 3D content out. So, rather than being done right, they needed to be readied in half the time they normally have, the results being less than stellar as one would expect. 3D conversion is an expensive process for the simple reason that it is a very long process. The SW releases are being given the longest conversion time that any 2D film has ever been given, as far as I know, and therefore I would expect they would be the best 3D conversions ever seen.

Another reason stuff like Alice and Titans were not impressive was because the way the 3D was used--in order to emphasize the dimensionality, shots are given 3D effects that are way too exaggerated because the suits at the studio want to "wow" you with the maximum amount of 3Dness. Luckily, in the case of the SW releases a lot of the people working on them are critical of some 3D releases for that very reason and have actually stated that the 3D work will be restrained when it is appropriate, so that things look natural and not just "popping out of the screen."

So, IMO, there is every reason to suppose these releases will be of the highest quality. I for one am looking forward to them.

I really can't see why some people have such a huge problem with movies being done in 3D. It's not as if you HAVE to watch the 3D version (ok apart from Star Wars, but what's new there). Anytime a 3D movie is released in theatres there is also the option to watch it in 2D. It's a choice. If you don't like 3D then you don't have to watch it. It's the same when they are released on Blu-Ray.

I don't think that 3D is just a fad this time. It's here to stay and i, for one, love it. Some conversions are pretty crappy and give you a headache but when they are done properly they can look really good. It's the same old argument with film-makers that's been going on since the early days of cinema. First it was  sound, then it was complaints about the use of colour in films taking away the artform, then digital and on and on...... Things evolve and things change
