Hi. Does anyone have the Leia welding footage available (as a raw capture)? I’d like to insert it into my own ld transfer but I have the 1993 definitive collection without Leia welding.

Maybe you can cut out the 7 seconds (+ some overlap maybe) with virtualdub. Maybe you can sent it to my ftp? Do you have windows commander or total commander (normally my ftp is not reachable with IE)? I would really appreciate it if you could sent me the footage. I hope it's not too much trouble. I'll PM you my ftp information if your willing and able to sent the footage to me. By the way, how's your ld to dvd transfer going?

Actually, does anyone with this footage want to repair Farsight's DVD?

Heck if someone can get me a good capture, I could do it.

I got the welding footage from Citizen. If you want it you can get it from me. But why would you want to fix the farsight transfer? There are enough transfers that have the footage (and there will be a lot more).

Where does the footage go in the movie?

In Empire at 50 min. 34 sec. approx. Just before Leia hangs up her gear.

Yeah there are many other transfers, but none I'm a fan of. To my eye Farsight still beats out the other versions.

I'm sure when XO versions finally come out that'll be great and I'll get them, but I'll be old and grey by then. (Not to knock the wonderful XO people, but progress seems slow).

Arnie: yeah I'd love get that footage from you. How big is the file? PM me.

I'm sure that if you can't wait for the X0 Project, you can buy your own mediocre LD player and a DVD recorder, and be done in fifteen or twenty minutes.

But your results will suck in comparison.

In the commercial printing industry, there's a saying: "Price, Quality, Speed: Pick any two." Same thing goes here, pretty much. The X0 Project, not being supported by a studio or anything, has chosen Price and Quality (and even then Price is of less concern than it is to probably any other project), so Speed necessarily suffers.

I, for one, am enjoying the X0 Project ride, no matter how long it takes. And I'll bet the X0 Project wraps it up well before mverta does!

Hey nobody here is flaming the X0 project. It is bloody amazing and I'm naturally impatient.

I will be lining up whenever MeBeJedi and Zion have their releases done, whenever that is.

In the mean time I want the best of what I can get. In my mind that is Farsight's discs.
If I can fix a few seconds of missing footage myself to make it better, so be it.

Yeah, I plonked the missing footage into the bootlegs I had just to round them out until we are done with the X0 stuff.
Progress is painfully slow at the beginning, as it is just sooo important to get the early steps right, as everything builds on everything else - make a mis-step at the start and the rest of the effort suffers or has to be scrapped.
You won't be old and grey though, I intend having my personal stuff finished well before the end of the year as a worst case.
I intend to be at this preservation thing for a long time though, I consider the X0 project as purely a first step on the road to preserving the trilogy.

I'm just as bad though, I'm constantly bugging TR47 about when his V2 will be done and out...

You know, I recall Dr. Gonzo telling me about a year or so ago that it was rather pretentious of me to bother trying to make the "best transfer that I could", when there were plenty of available versions out there. I'm certainly glad I didn't take his advice then.

As I've said many times, people should experiment on their own transfers, if anything for the knowledge you gain from it - otherwise I would have nothing to contribute to the X0 Project. Don't let anyone else tell you not to.
