ok,

just not to completely mess up the other thread about

preserving the prints..

i've finally got both the english (5/6) and full spanish

versions now..

now comes the hard part...or maybe not.. figuring out

which one is better.. or maybe we will have to combine

parts from both of them..

i guess i'll put up raw samples of the same frame, and

then apply the same color corrections to both to see

what happens, but that might not work either, since

one might look better with a different correction..

i'll show you what i mean..

i could use some advice on the best way to go about this..

i'm running out of time (moving/job/etc) since my computer/scanner

had problems, so we lost a lot of time.... so i might not be able

to put up as many shots, but i'll try to cover the reels i have for

both (except 3, which i didn't get for the english one)..

i'm only going to put the first few corrected pictures

in FULL size for now, but i'll put up the rest as thumbnails..

also, i need to redo the untouched versions..

by the way, i've noticed that the colors are different in this version,

of course that's due to my overcorrection, and also trying to compensate

for the red shift....will work on it..

 i'm working on 2 different monitors on this older computer,

and the colors look different from the other 2 i used to work

on , so its making it difficult to judge the colors..

Right now, I think the Spanish print looks better.  But I'd need to see them side-by-side (for real, not switching tabs) just to be sure.

although its way too early..

i think i will try to move the files to my main computer....

don't judge these just yet, we need  a lot more images,

i'll be working on it this weekend......

the best thing to do is put up the raw shots..

the color correction is throwing off the way it looks..

basically we have:

spanish print                                               english print

1 faded colors                                            red shift

2 spliced in intro of lesser quality              original intro

3? spliced in segment of greedo               original greedo (i hope i have this reel, checking)

4  they both have the original crawl (no ep IV, or 'a new hope')

thoughts

1) i think its a lot easier to fix a faded print, than to mess around with red shifts

2) there might be more scratches on the spanish print intro

3) still checking if i have this reel in english print

thoughts ONLY about the original trilogy (NO PT),

but SE talk is allowed

2) ABSOLUTELY no lucas bashing, lucasfilm, etc,

anyone who does this will be warned, and then banned if repeated

3) all fans of the original trilogy and this board are welcome

4) most of the preservation topics that were on this board

have been transferred over to there...

for the comparison,

i will be doing the following:

i will line up both films next to each other, and then scan them..

that way they will have the exact same frames next to each other..

to make it easier to compare..
