Fox Does 24-Hour Reality
Its all reality, all the time for Fox.
The broadcasting giant is getting ready to debut Fox Reality, a 24-hour, all-reality-television based network.
Starting May 24, such Fox reality classics as The Swan, Joe Millionaire and Temptation Island, as well as several non-Fox hits as Last Comic Standing and For Love or Money, will be broadcast 24 hours a day on Fox Reality. The network will be made up of reruns, behind-the-scenes footage, reality personality updates and expert commentary.
"We plan to make Fox Reality the most authentic destination for America's growing legions of unscripted fans," David Lyle, chief operating officer of the network, said in a statement.
Network execs are plugging away at adding more programming to the 1,000-plus hours of shows already on tap. In fact, Variety says Fox is currently in talks to snap up previously run episodes of The Bachelor.
Some of reality television's heaviest hitters, such as Survivor, American Idol and The Apprentice, are notably absent from the docket due to network deals and syndication availability. But Lyle told Variety he and his minions are working hard to bank as much reality TV as possible.
"We're interested in the widest range of reality programming we can get," he said.
Among other shows scheduled for a Fox Reality debut are two of the My Big Fat Obnoxious... franchises, Mr. Personality, Mad, Mad House, Meet My Folks, Arrest & Trial, Fifth Wheel and Who Wants to Marry My Dad?
Lyle said the network also hopes to roll out some original programming by the end of the year.
It remains to be seen if the network will succeed, but for now, deals with Adelphia, Insight, DirectTV, Dish and Cox guarantee Fox Reality will be available in at least 18.5 million homes.
MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.
MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.
JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

I know I'll probably get clobbered for this, but IMO Survivor is one of the best shows on television over the past several years. It's quite dramatic, albeit edited for drama, however I think it provides good twists and turns consistently week after week. However, 24/7 reality...echhhh.
