Yes, the GOUT's are better in clarity and accuracy than the LD's.

So I am just waiting for a more accessible anamorphic reworking of these GOUT DVD's to come along.

I can't seem to find any though.

But until then, I am happy watching the GOUT's when I want old school original trilogy!  :-)

I just bought the Star Wars Unaltered Trilogy on DVD off of this web site DELETED because i was unhappy with treatment of the 2006 release of the Original Trilogy the quality was horrible they should have got the same treatment that the 2004 Special Editions did with out any of the cgi but completely restored in there original form now i can watch them they way they were suppost to be now i can throw away the 2004 special editions and grace my Star Wars collection with the original theatrical versions they way they should be seen with Han shooting first no Ian McDirmid as the Emperor and no Hayden Christnesen in Return Of The Jedi.

I hadn't bought the LTD Edition sets for a few reasons.  One, half the set I already owned in the 2004 DVD box set.  Second, non-anamorphic transfers from a 13 year old Laserdisc source.  Not a state-of-the-art digital remaster and transfer making full use of the format for optimal quality.  Lastly, the price.  Having to pay $14.99 for each of them, meaning another $45 spent on this trilogy was too much.  But a few months ago, I was all over eBay looking for a deal.  I found one.  All three DVD sets for $9.99 +$6.80 for shipping.  No way I'd find them for a better price.

My desire to obtain this DVD release is just to have the original films in widescreen.  I had only ever owned the OOT on pan-and-scan VHS.  First from HBO & ShowTime broadcasts, and then, as a box set from 1992.  Now, this is something to twist your brains around.  Here is the message scrawled across the outside of that box from George Lucas himself.

"Fifteen years ago I set out to make a film for a generation growing up without fairy tales.  Star Wars was my own elaborate fantasy, but its popularity has gone beyond anything even I had imagined.  In years to come I hope that you, your children, and your children's children will enjoy experiencing this saga as much as I have."

In retrospect, sounds very bizarre.  Doesn't it?
