Althor, I’ll put some frames with the IR damage matte up on the share tonight.

Many thanks Poita. I should be able to play around with this and make a script in avisynth that makes dirt removal a whole lot smarter. As long as you have the IR to use as a mask anyway. Dirt on top of motion will probably still be problematic but getting it to hone in on only dirt and not a laser bolt, for example, eliminates half the battle I suppose.

I haven’t used any professional dirt removal tools other than pfclean. Perhaps dirt removal isn’t that big of a problem like it used to be for guys like you with all the right tools.

All the audio work that I’ve done for Team Blu has been synced to the 04 DVD’s. ANH should sync exactly to the DVD, while TESB syncs except for the updated Emperor scene, and ROTJ syncs except for the Naboo shot during the Celebration scene at the end.

If I had some gum, I’d chew a hole into the sun…

Finally donated! I have renewed interest in the '97SE and will continue to support the efforts, in poita we trust

It doesn’t hurt to offer help, but it always hurts to disregard those that do.

I’m not sure what the question is?

It is being scanned on a 6K sensor, with 4K Full Aperture output:
4096 x 3112 pixels. (UHD 4K is 3840x2160, so the scan is considerably higher resolution than ‘consumer 4K’)

This SE print doesn’t resolve as much detail as the IB Techs from the 70s, 4K in this instance should be more than enough.

Yeah I’m not sure what BrightestDayFan2814’s question was regarding either.

The SE scan actually has more detail in the shadows then I was expecting. I wonder how Empire’s detail will compare to the Eastman prints of the 80s?

The shadow detail is quite good, triple-flash makes sure we get all of it, the resolution on the print is a little lacking, but the dynamic range is quite good, and the print is in far better shape than any of the original releases.

I know you said no more public examples, but can we see a frame from Empire to see what you mean?

Empire hasn’t been scanned yet, he was talking about the ANH:SE print. But the SE prints should all have similar detail unless they come from different labs around the world or something.

Ah, okay. Sorry about that.

I have a feeling that Empire:SE will be more useful then ANH:SE from the point of view of restoring the O-OT.

The Emperor scene from the SE comes to mind. What sucks about footage sourced from the Grondhouse (other than the obvious damage to the print) is the vignette around almost every scene.

The “Grindhouse” ESB release wasn’t made from poita’s scan, it was made from TN1’s. Poita’s scans (from the previews he shared in the thread) showed significant improvement over it.

I know, I’m just talking in terms of what Harmy was using in his video a while back comparing footage between version 3.0 that he’s working on. The footage he was showing based off the Grindhouse had issues.

Things are on hold for a week or two, the scanner is being serviced to fix the focus problem. Should result in faster scans though once rectified.
As soon as the scanner is back up and running I’ll post a few more images.

We already have much better Emporer footage from the 1980 scans for ESB, I think I already gave Harmy and Adywan the scenes they requested.

It’s so hot here today. I had to walk the last 500 metres home as the road has melted, and my car was just slip-sliding in the molten tarmac and couldn’t get enough traction for the hill.
The water truck should be by later to water the roads so we can retrieve our cars. It is usually doinbg the rounds of the town, but has been absent today.

The air-con has failed at home, so it is a balmy 46C inside the house at the moment. ( I think that is around 115F for you imperial scum)

Hopefully the air-con can be fixed this week, the forecast is for hotter weather.
Yuk!
I want to move to Hoth.

Can I move there too? I’ve had enough fires smoke and high winds the past week to last me a lifetime.

Where were you in '77?

Heh. I feel like I’m living on Hoth right now, with sub-zero temperatures and snow all around (Midlands, UK). Time to make a snowman.

Hope it cools down for you guys on the other side. 46C (seriously?!) is not good.

Yikes. And I complain at 36C.

Sure, I’ll swap.

I just finished lining all the windows with aluminium foil to try and drop the heat in here.
Its crazy.

On the upside, it will also stop all the alien transmissions affecting my brain whilst I sleep.
