ok,

here's the deal..

there's no footage..

it's the same frame repeated many many times over,

the second half is for the film : the other side of midnight http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076507/

check this out:

--------------------

Because of a phenomenal success of the book, 20th Century Fox was sure that this was going to be a huge hit at the box office. At the same time there were such low expectations surrounding Star Wars (1977) that most theaters refused to book the film. So the distributor at Fox came up with the idea of a package deal: telling theater chains that if they wanted this movie they had to book Star Wars first. This movie went on to become a box office dud while Star Wars went on to become one of the most successful films of all time

so basically, i have the marketing trailer for the both films.......its pretty much a nice

souvenier / novelty piece..... no need to restore it..

but at least i have some 16mm film to mess around with now..

I've seen lengthy MGM trailers on Turner Classic Movies promoting upcoming releases for an entire year. One from around 1967 or so shows stills in the cases of some films still in production at the time, (2001 is represented by a couple production paintings over narration) so this trailer makes some sense to me now. You may have scored the earliest media presentation of Star Wars outside of the 1976 World Science Fiction Convention!

The way Star Wars was regarded and marketed by the studio and others before it's success is as much a part of it's history as anything else. Please make an effort to preserve this if you can.

It would be cool if you can get the audio for this transferred as well.

Where were you in '77?

There's probably audio clips and narration selling the film along with that still if you could ever play it back I'm sure. Cool find.

Awesome.  It may not seem that awesome, but it's definitely a really cool item.  Even the official sources have so far not mentioned this (to my knowledge).  Hopefully there's audio to go with it.

I wonder if maybe the background clouds are animated, at least?  They would look very much the same throughout the frames even if they were.

Thank you for the scan.  That looks like a theater snipe.  How long is it?  Are you going to make a video of it?

I'll be happy to volunteer my workprinter.  It's 16mm?  For some reason I had thought it was 35mm.

Oh, I had thought it was 35mm as well!  Even better that it's in 16mm for our purposes.

I think Puggo's the man for this one.  I can't wait to see and hopefully hear the results.
