Which is why we started this project in the first place...

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

That is the reason why I don't get all worked up about when this project comes out. I would rather have Laserman better than ever see this finished. Come on people......

kind of makes our own problems seem less like problems.......

at this point I agree with Darth Richard.....get well laserman, put your family first and if you ever do have the energy for this project again, so be it....but don't hurt yourself over something like the X0 project.....I'm sure laserman's family would agree......

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I would love to say something any more articulate than Richard, but I can´t; he put it perfect. Should Laserman see our comments, I hope that he realizes they are sincere and not a cry for attention.

Laserman, may the future find you in good health.

Being in college and living by myself I don't have the time anymore to spend entire evenings at the computer (to finish my simple PAL-fullscreen LD transfer for example). Now this project takes up more time than all the others combined, so I don't understand how you guys even find the time at all to do such extensive work all in your free time. The only thing I'm interested in are SW transfers and technical discussions about them, I don't give much about fan-edits. So this thread is the reason I keep logging in every few weeks. As long as it will be finished, and before I'm old and wrinkled - just slightly remebering some movies which had stars and wars, I'll be happy. I'd rather wait another year than see a result which could have been better (in your right mind).

Sure hope Laserman will finally be cut some slack and get well. You guys should print a book with all his posts, I'd buy it!

EDIT: Remebered I had a short email conversation with him when the OT DVD's were being released, and I was still hoping the PAL DVD's would be superior. As I was reading them again I saw he already predicted they wouldn't be: "If they take the easy way out they will use the NTSC pressing master and just upscale for the PAL version. One would hope not, but it would be much less costly and faster for them to do. We will have to wait and see."

That's no moon. It's a LaserDisc.

Thanks MBJ and Zion for explanations.

I did not realise quite how fully this project depended on Laserman. Of course it is pretty meaningless next to his real life problems. I really hope he gets better but sometimes things just don't happen that way He is a great guy.

If we are unfortunate enough that Laserman can't continue, does that mean the project is over?

Darth Lucas: I am altering the trilogy. Pray I don't alter it further.

It's not impossible with the BM software either - it just won't be near enough as good as we would like it to be.

I thought blackmagic was a tool to colorize black and white photos. What exactly do you use it for? Color correction?
Fez: I am so excited about Star Whores.
Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.

Is there any update on Laserman? Does he know we are thinking of him?

If I'm not mistaken, Black Magic is actually his editing-hardware... software-wise I assume he's using Apple's "Shake" on it.

Not exactly. The way I understood it, the software is actually a proprietary application that uses Shake for all the processing. It's not just a piece of equipment with Shake installed on it. (You might be thinking of Blackmagic Design, who make a lot of video hardware, but that is not the same thing.)

Arnie, you are also thinking of something completely different.

And I'm sorry but there is no update on Laserman. We still have not heard from him.

Zion, I would consider a replacement for Laserman if you don't hear from him sooner or later. Personally I hope Laserman can recover and get back into the swing of things to finnish this project, but if he can't come back, then this project might allready be dead, unless someone can step in to fill his shoes.

Laserman is fighting for his life and you are talking about replacing him!?!?!
Laserman is irreplaceable...

Nobody is talking about wanting to replace him--simply the reality of having to make the choice between allowing the project to die, or finding somebody to take his place, if he is unable to resume his work. Having to make that choice may become a reality. Hopefully not. Arnie.d, if that last line of your post is in fact true, then in fact the choice might have to be made to never finish the project, or to return to the initial focus of the project--simply releasing the original, unaltered transfers from the laserdiscs.

I'd be thrilled to watch MPEG-2 encodes of the raw X0 captures while we wait for Laserman to convalesce.
No fancy menus or anything, just bare-bones DVDs of the DC & SC.
Call it version zero and put X0 project logo watermarks on if you're worried someone will steal your thunder.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

How about a Criterion Collection style cover for the fully restored XØ transfer?
I always like the info about the transfer and restoration on the back of the cover of criterion dvds.
