GOUT is a condition in which uric acid, a waste product that occurs naturally occurring within the body, rises above normal levels. Rather than being flushed by the kidneys and through the urine, as it normally is, it forms crystals and deposits in the joints. These deposits give rise to inflammation of the joints, causing pain, swelling, redness and tenderness of the area. Most typically the joint affected is that of the big toe, but gout can also affect the ankle, knee, foot, hand, wrist and elbow. Uric acid crystals may also form deposits in other areas such as under the skin or in other soft tissues, and in the kidney or urinary tract.

You might want to rethink that.

I know exactly what gout is, it is how the official release makes me feel treated as a fan, and how I will be referring to it from now on.

Well, Gout tends to last about a few days, maybe one. Those damn GOUT discs are gonna be around on people shelves for a long time.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

I like GOUT too.

Cool. GOUT it is....

What a shame though....this whole situation with the GOUT. GL really blew a golden opportunity to be a hero to fans of all ages
if he only done the right thing....Can you imagine how much respect he would have gained if the GOUT had SURPASSED all expectations
and blew us all away with the best possible capture, released in anamorphic, perfect color balance, awesome sound, totally restored frames with zero dropouts....

Aw wait a moment, I forgot.....I just described the X0T didn't I?....never mind Georgie......hehehehehe.....

When I was nine, GL was a hero of mine, now he's just a rich old man with a huge goutier growing out from what used to be his neck.
Thank goodness we have the X0 releases to look foward to......no pressure though(MeBeJedi)

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

X0 chaps you are awesome, but your PR isn't that great ... too long between output
Throw us a bone ... shots from a few of the key scenes...

Thanks

I predict: not gonna happen.

However, I also predict that nobody will make better use of the DVDs than will the X0 Project...

When did anyone on the X0 team say they were going to use the DVD's?

I don't know that they did. I'm just sayin' that's what I predict.

They said they were going to have a look at the dvd's to see what could be done with them but that they intend to finish the best possible pre '97 laserdisc transfer.
Lucas released the dvd set to stop bootlegs. If a bootleg set can be better than his official release, it would embarass LFL even further and put a lot more pressure on him to give the films a proper release. I think the '07 boxset will be the best chance for a long time. Hopefully with all the searching they are doing in the Lucasfilm archives for actual bonus material, they might stumble across some prints. If I had to guess, I'd figure they'd be in the same area Lucas wisely kept the deleted scenes and original elements from bluescreen shots. Lucas just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would throw anything out. It's been confirmed he has a copy of the Holiday Special, how else would you explain the cartoon excerps shown on the Jango feature from AotC disc two. They even considered addressing it in Empire of Dreams with excerps. And isn't it true he still has his original screenplay writings on paper. Lucas wants to have complete control over his films. I think he just resents how Star Wars took on a life of its own and he just can't accept that the movies belong to the fans, not him.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

As such, it may have been just as well that we didn't beat these versions, since we can try to up the ante for the 30th anniversary.

Didn't beat as in "beat in time for the release" or "beat in terms of quality"?

Gentlemen, you may wish to check out the image enhancement software PhotoAcute:

PhotoAcute Website

It uses several low res images to produce a high res image. For example, if you rip the laserdisc twice (or three times), then you have three captures of each frame, and you put the three images into PhotoAcute, and it produces a high res noiseless image. For example, for each pixel it compares the three low res images, and if two of them have the same color on the pixel, but one of them has a different color, then it concludes that the "odd man out" must be just noise, so it keeps the good color and throws out the noise.

Anyway, they have some examples on their website, and it looks very promising. I believe the Mars probes used something similar in order to produce high res images based on several low res images of the same terrain.

Best of luck to you, I'm looking forward to the X0 release!

(don't start all over again with the new software though)

This is not too different from a filter I proposed and had coded about two years ago, called 'TooT'. In fact, I don't think PhotoAcute could do any better, since the three captures are not "continuous photos", but instead three nearly-identical copies of exactly the same master. In other words, all the scan lines are fixed; there is none of the small variation in capturing small details that can be exploited to increase detail. Like PhotoAcute promises, TooT will reduce noise and eliminate dropouts, but it can't possibly increase real resolution (just as PhotoAcute can't).

I thought I'd read a post or e-mail by Zion where he mentioned TooT, so I'm confident the X0 Project is well on top of image post-processing.

Even with just one capture, you could usually feed in three sequential frames of the same scene, and they would for the most part show identical backgrounds. Perhaps PhotoAcute (or Toot) could process the data to clean up at least the stationary background of the shot(s).

Hey guys - even if /when a cracking fan LD transfer (like the XO project) comes out and craps all over the official release, it won't embarass or shame LFL one bit. Because people, in general, wont either know or care. Bearing in mind no-one will be able to get hold of it, the impact it would have would be extrmemely limited - even if it was featured in the press: "A group of fans have released a fantastic laserdisc to DVD conversion that puts the official releases to shame! Except you cant see it. Er, move along......"

And there is no way that LFL will release the OT in the2007 box set - it says quite specifically that this is the only time they will be available ON DVD........so they will hold back for HD. That is why no work has gone into it. To get you to buy it yet again.
2004 SE DVDs - only SW DVDs available - so we buy it
2006 GOUT - only theatrical release on DVD ever - so we buy it
2007 - Saga box set - with all the extras and BTS stuff we should have had first time - so we buy it
2009/2010 - HD individual releases of all 6 films - with theatrical release having been cleaned up 'especially for this Hi-Def presentation' - so we buy it.

Its just LFL very very cynically making money. If they release a cleaned up 5.1 surround set of the OUT this time, we would be far less likely to buy it again in 2 years. Regardless of how you feel about the 'lack of care' they have given to the release, they really do know how to squeeze money out of the fans.

Dont get me wrong - I love the fan-preservations (I even tried one myself hahaha) but now that we have 'succeeded' to the point of getting LFL to release the theatrical cut, the issue for most average fans has been settled.

Actually, judging by the track record, that seems to make it more likely to be released in 2007. Remember how those films were dead? How they didn't exist anymore? That they would never be released again? The only time one of their silly little marketing ploys like that turned out to be true, tragically, was "The Star Wars Triology... One Last Time!" when the faces set came out. Actually even that one is no longer ture as of 12-09-06 since they have just released them again... for the first and last time on DVD. We'll see, time will tell.

I'm aware of both those 'last chance' things - I bought them both for a start: but it is extremely unlikely that even LFL will go back on their own word in 6 months. .... (prepares to eat own hat)
