With any preservation project that is IVTC'd (which is every one I've encountered save for dark_jedi's transfers), you can apply the X0 timecode offset to 01:00:40:12 at the first frame of the Star Wars logo, set at 24fps, and it should match up just fine.

Here's something you can try if you're bored: Line up the X0 TC Print with any PAL or pre-THX transfer. What you will notice is that certain frames in places where the film was spliced are actually missing from the PAL and pre-THX versions. Mostly these are the frames at the beginning and end of shots that have yellow tape at the bottom. For example, check out the end of the shot where Vader says "There will be no one to stop us this time!". I'm not 100% sure about the PAL, but there are actually 3 frames missing from the Special Collection at the end of that shot and 2 at the beginning of the next shot. When people talk about audio sync issues, this is one of the big reasons why it happens.

It's the actual splicing tape. Because it is in the space where the actual video is, it got picked up by the telecine device, and is now part of the video. You really don't see it while watching the video because it's only one frame, and the very next frame is a completely different scene, but since we are fixing the film frame-by-frame, away it goes.

I think Mielr asked about that as well a while back. We have a copy of the original film, as well as a collection of film cells for reference. We also have a few other things that I will not get into at this time.

Sorry, that's all I can say right now. I keep saying that another video is going up on the sight "soon", and I know that's seems to have taken bloody ages. Stuff happens. One week we're banging on all cylinders, the next, people are out of town and work/family/real life takes all of our time.

This is going as fast as it can, but even I'd be lying if I didn't say I wish we were finished by now.

Yes, take your time. It will be well-worth the wait and money, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm probably not even going to buy the official DVDs at this point. (People who don't own the new DVD set can still buy these, right? I mean, I own the original laserdiscs anyway, right?)

Do you own the actual original laserdiscs used for the transfer? And did you transfer them yourself? No, well the copies you obtain from the X0 project would not under US law be considered "personal back-ups". Unless I'm mistaking (and Zion, correct me if I'm wrong) - the purpose of the X0 project is to digitally preserve the THX Laserdiscs of the SW trilogy in the highest possible quality, with all flaws due to the Laserdisc format and the digital transfer such as ghosting, stray pixels causing image flaws, hairs, scratches and the 2:3 pulldown fixed - not to serve as an alternative to legally purchasing the September DVD's - is this correct?

From what I understand the DVD's coming in sept are coming from the old (composite?) master that was used for 93 releases. And if that is really the case, I would think X0 project STILL can have the upper hand. Bad MPEG compression, EE, etc can make the official DVD look worse for sure.
