Peter - I will miss your insight and devotion to the OT and the "Laserdisc Preservation" and I do understand your reasoning and others we may lose due to this "darkness" that is best unspoken (kinda like Betelgeuse but not funny)

Good journeys my friend and may the Force be with you...

P.S. - DON'T forget your towel!!!!!

Peter, if your mind is already definitely made up, then it's made up and there's nothing I can do about it, especially being someone who's been around this board and general community for such a small amount of time. However, that doesn't mean I haven't done my homework and I do know what's going on around here. You have no idea how excited I was when I heard about the X0 Project. I have the Dr Gonzo & ISOMIX editions of the discs and I'm getting the TR47 edition. Judging by a few random screenshots and technical description alone, I believed that the product of the X0 Project would have yeilded the be-all-end-all best possible results to gather from a less-than-archival source to begin with, and that would have left me very content. I'm one of those people, like I think many on this board are, that would not rest until I was assured that I had the best possible quality of something I felt was as important as the original versions of the Star Wars trilogy and I believed that's what the X0 project was going to be. I'm sorry you feel the way you do and I'm sorry to see the project on your side come to a premature end.

Specifically why I cited "on his end". I'm still greatly looking forward to the work you and Zion are putting into this.

Hi Laserman!

I have just recently seen this very interresting thread about your X0-project, it sounds to be the DEFINITIVE version of the OT on DVD. I would be more than happy to support you in your effort to bring us this fine work, finacially or with other means if possible.

I am sorry to hear that you are closing the project down. But the lack of interrest could be the recent holiday. People have been with their families and so forth.

This DanielB guy is spoiling to much of the good stuff in here.......... DanielB why dont you leave this forum? You dont seem to like anything in here anyway!

Ps. Laserman I really hope you will revive the X0-project, because this is to good to be true! Ds.
Do, or do not. There is no try.

Peter, I'm going to make this brief. I have no problems with you calling my posts annoying, or anything else for that matter. I do realise I have the ability to bring out the worst in people at times, and for that I truly am sorry. But please do not blame me for anything more than that. Now, I realise people do spend a lot of time, investment and money in these things. As times, you could think it's not all for nothing. But intention does not guarantee performance, Lucas has spent an outrageous amount and look at what he's produced.

If it adds one name to the tally you can add mine for wanting to see your version. If you were to give me a couple of months I could fund a meaningful amount, and am prepared to do so. I know you can still contribute your knowledge to other's in their efforts here. And heck I'd be a fool to say you're not right that I may have said the wrong thing at times. But that does not excuse the behaviour of others on this forum, you can not point the finger at me and blame me for the post that Daniel posted, for instance.

In conclusion, though it pains me to say this - the decision as to whether you continue your project is entirely up to you, and I do not intend to change your mind. Maybe you are angered at me because of your obsessive devotion to all of this. You haven't angered me, what has angered me is to see this forum and the name of preservation used illogically to somehow blanket and hide the grim reality of producing uniquely butchered versions. Why the rest of you cannot see that? Maybe you're angered at me because of my own faults, showing my failure to the preservation. Maybe it's both.

I was wrong. MeBeJedi is not only mature, but civil also. I would like to remind everyone here that I do not take issue with his good willed character. Just his intentions to modify the trilogy. I can understand how you would think it implies demoralization of his character as you may be thinking "LUCAS is an idiot". MeBeJedi is not an idiot, nor an unvalued member here, he is mature, responsible and holds intentions which are admirable. I am sorry for ever even hinting that his character was otherwise.

I don't usually post in the "original trilogy preservation" thread, but wow I think I should, things are getting HOT over here...

laserman please don't stop the XO. Give me a couple of weeks and I will send a 100 dollars. I know that is nothing compared to what you have spent. I hope it will help. If you don't mind me asking how much will this project take?

Please email troyig88@yahoo.com I want to help. I have a huge star wars collection but a good copy of the orginal version on dvd would be the crown jewel.

Good lord, I swear off the board for six hours and look what happens. In the interest of finding a silver lining, I think the greatest good out of all this is that it is now made quite clear to all on this board that DanielB and Daniel, who once even shared the same avatar, are not the same person (unless its a Jekyll/Hyde kinda thing).

I am pained that the X0 project is dead. I was looking forward to it not just on its own merits, but knowing that it would become the source for so many other cool projects going on. I only read this thread yesterday -- in its entirety -- and was jazzed about the project and the new source for all forthcoming restoration projects. I was looking forward to this truly un-f'ed with OT as much as I was MBJ and Zions restorative projects. MVerta's project, which we're never going to see, has nonetheless inspired me to make my own reduced SE that I can tolerate, and his postings have helped to be a guide, along with some of Grisan's previously posted work.

What I've read so far this morning shows some of the most venomous bile ever seen on this board. I didn't think that was possible after the last meltdown, but here we go again, and the same user is largely the source of it all once again.

Never since Germany in the 1930s have we heard somebody so passionate about purism that he felt all voices who deviated from that should be either silenced or sent elsewhere. If you call me a capitalist, I'll call you a Nazi in return. Both labels will be appropriate. The offshoots of OT purism are still a part of the ongoing conversation on this board and are highly appropriate to the subject matter. As one who has been hosting a similar forum (on an entirely different subject) for a decade, I can tell you that the community grows when the conversation is not stifled. I can also tell you that sometimes the conversation DOES need to be quelled, but usually when a disruptive member needs to be disciplined. As a result, my forum has built a true community who has get togethers, input from the subject about whom we discuss, and we bond together in the face of personal tragedies.

Back to this board, this thread, and its current state: For all the apologies given in the latter posts, it does not take back what was said in venomous hate in the first place. Rikter has rightfully asked us in the past to contain our language because youngsters do visit this board too. I've asked us not to take the bait provided by the god of dischord and I emplore that once again. Mind you all, everybody has a right to their anger when it produces results such as these, and all I can say is to take it out in PM -- or in another method altogether. Working out at the gym is fairly constructive. If we put half as much energy into improving ourselves (not to mention our particular visions of an ideal OT) then we'd be better people, happier with what life has provided us. When you wish to impose your anger on the collective audience, ask yourself, What Would Yoda Do?

I hope to end the ranting with this important thought: Does one, single person along the coast of the Indian Ocean care right now whether or not the OT has been restored at all? Does anybody in Iraq care about any changes in Star Wars or E.T. or my son's birthday videos? Does anybody in East Timor feel like debating till the wee hours of the morning on PAL vs NTSC formatted source material? Let's put some things back into perspective folks. The world is full of real pain right now, but we all are here out of a labor of love. If Star Wars, in any format, gives us some collective enjoyment and entertains us in new and exciting ways, why must anyone resort to tearing down anybody else for taking part?
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

I'm a bit taken aback that you would cancel this promising project solely because of one disruptive member. Granted, I don't read every single post made by the members here, but it seems premature to me. If I wasn't already doing production for my own project, I would definately be providing support for this. I am not that worried about preserving the exact same version as seen in theaters c. 1977, only that the non SE versions be made available for people, and the LDs do that job well enough. As I see it, they are mainly intended to be an upgrade for people's poor quality VHS tapes in a non degradable format. I have had people message me saying that their tapes are about to snap, and are at a loss at what to do! Before abandoning this, please think about the fact that you could very well hold the key to the best possible version, and that the effort is necessary to accomplish that which we all want: saving Star Wars from Lucas' meddling.

I'm sorry for my outburst.

I was really going to ignore his reply until I found out DanielB chased off Laserman in addition to Zion (is he gone???) and almost chased off MBJ.

I'm bewildered and dismayed at what's going on. If I wasn't still coming down off the cieling after the tornado alert this morning, (in California!?) I probably could make some sense of things. I really hate Mondays!

I'll check back in a week when I get back home and have thought more about this. At this point I haven't given the X0 files off to mebejdi or zion or anyone else. I'm still trying to decide whether its worth sharing what has been done so far or not. When you stop enjoying it, it's usually time to stop in my experience. *edit* When I look at it logically, DanielB is the one thing that stopped it being fun, but that is what triggered me to rethink the whole thing really, so I've got to make my own decision. *edit*

Anyway, I'm going to cruise for a week now, it will probably become clear what to do all by itself. It usually does when I leave it alone for a while.

Cheers all, I 'll chat to you next week.

LM.

That's probably for the best mate, as I said earlier you are the one who has to decide your course of action, people just trying to change your mind - I know is confusing and frustrating. I myself hope you take the project back up, and as I said I am willing to help out in it with funding. If I manage to get a faster PC (than this old 750mhz thing) then i'd be willing to take a copy of the source cap and painstakingly create a watchable DVD from it too.

DanielB, what part of "You caused this" don't you get? He decided this because of your behavior towards him and others on these boards ! Do we really need to hit you over the head with this fact!?! Is this not a big enough clue? Are you seriously in that much denial?

DanielB. After this I have decided that I am leaving these forums, though I haven't contributed much anyway. I would have gladly contributed in any way, shape, or form to the X0 project that I could have, but now that is obviously a moot point.

I believe Daniel said it best.

Good-bye, for what it's worth.

No, he said I stop him from having fun doing the project. That's probably true, and I am sorry. But I'm not the one who decided the project should stop, heck I love the project as much as you do - just not for quite the same reason.
