I'm not sure how I feel about those lines (or any others that I've seen), but if you WANT to watch Constantine (though that's in need of an edit.. hmmm...) go ahead. I'm not finalizing anything for several days either way.

Doctor M, don't give up!!! A lot of people here, myself included, are eagerly anticipating your final versions. The interest is out there, trust me, we're just too lazy to post any feedback Maybe you should take a break, like a month away from the project, and then you can return to it refreshed and ready to finish it off.

remember what I said about the SPENCE project? Don't give up. Don't rely on feedback here, it is the wrong place. Your edits are very ambitious. Go for them, they could be terrific. Don't stop where others stop, giving up is easy, walking away is easy, finishing what you spent so much time working and talking about is difficult but worth it. I have no idea how you motivate yourself to do the things you do, but you had so much power for weeks and weeks to carry on. Don't let that got to waste.

Nothing about fanediting is easy.

NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
please dont give up! I sooooooo wanna see this finished! Take us much time as you need on it but please dont give up!

An idea for the smith/bane- Well, it might not be, the Matrix is rebooted and so a version of Smith may return. You could also look for a 'realy?' for Neo or 'No?' or a realy cheesy out of place Bill and Ted 'Yeah!'

Please dont give up on this.

Ok, the truth is I won't bury this. I just keep taking a break for a couple days, coming back, tweaking the troubled bits, then trying to sit through it and almost crying because it isn't playing out like I think it should.

As far as a Keanu line: I always thought the Matrix movies were in desperate need of a 'Whoa'.

ok WELL... I just finished the matrix revolutions hacked, reloaded hacked is still downing, but I do have to say I like this a bit more than the theatre release, which is a movie i think i wasted money on... as thoughts were on the trilogy site... the first 25 mins is well... awkward, the middle 1 hr is definately better than the real release, great pacing... the end is good, but the big UMPH is missing, I thought the fight scene mr smith and neo should be moved up, but, that would change your whole vision... you are in a hard spot to make this work, im just not sure there is enuff footage, but i enjoyed it as this is a work in progress more than reloaded is

Definitely walk away from it for a couple days. It's like trying a write a paper in one go--after a while, you just get lost, and your head feels like its going explode. But if you let it sit for a few days or a week, you can go back and look at it with new eyes, and a clear head. You don't have a time table, no due dates here, so take your time.

That's right, EtE, I had forgotten. Well 2 and 3 don't have any Whoas (I think).

Anyway, discs are burned.
Matrix 2 is being called v1.01. The only real difference from the xvid release is that all edits are now done with Avisynth instead of Womble. It makes for much cleaner transitions and better quality.
Matrix 3 I'm calling v1.5, but that's just a number. I can no longer remember all the changes that have been made since the Xvid release. Off the top of my head:
The opening voice over is removed.
All transitions are now avisynth instead of womble.
Many audio crossfades have been tweaked.
Neo's jack in is extended/flipped with an added scene of him looking for the Oracle who is now missing (with Voice over).
Continuity has been greatly improved.
Several clips have been added/extended (we're talking seconds worth really).
What wasn't done that might have been:
Zion Rave wasn't cut. Sitting through it, I didn't mind the length. In fact after all the action is was a nice change of pace before getting back into the action again.
No line of dialog was added before Smith/Bane is killed. Voice overs from other sources usually sound like crap. Smith thundering on pointlessly seemed like a better alternative.
A better impression of Neo being returned from Zion wasn't possible. No footage of sufficient length exists that could be used/reused.

Um, that's all I can think of. It's a bit smoother, but the beginning is still kind of rough but much much better. I just hit the limitation of the source material.
I wish the ending was bigger, it's not, but it is where I wanted the story to go. I hope you all enjoy.

These edits can be summed up as:
Matrix 2 was my attempt to fix the philosophy and pace.
Matrix 3 was to fix the philosophy and tone and to rewrite the ending (even at the occasional expense of pace).

Congrats on finishing. Can you post them on Pirate Bay as Xvids. I'd love to check them out.
I can't promise I'll try, but I'll try to try.

Matrix 2 and 3 Hacked are both already on Pirate Bay.
Matrix 2 won't be re-upped since there is no substantial difference except some quality tweaks which won't be so noticable on a 1 CD sized Xvid.
Matrix 3's v1.5 will replace the v1.0 as soon as I get word from the guinea pig/top-o'-the-PIF-tree people that things are good to go.

Doctor M - I missed last weeks post somehow. Congrats on getting it finished. I'm sure you need a big non-Matrix break. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. If you still need me to PIF, let me know.

No additional copies will be mailed by me (or the people getting the first copies) until ALL have reported that there's no errors (that I can fix).

This way we don't run into problems with everybody remailing if a bug turns up. It'll be a little slower going but I think it's better this way (especially since I'm a real hack at this).

f1209: You are already on the top 5 list. The discs were mailed Wednesday, expect yours early next week.

Great edits, Doctor M! You cut all the superfluous stuff you could and made the story make just a little more sense that it did before. I really enjoyed the Hacked sequels, well done.

You wanted to know about technical glitches:
-Extra frame at the end of the council meeting where Naobi volunteers to search for the N (I can't spell it).
-Sped up/skipping/something like that in the staircase fight with the Frenchman's goons, right before they jump off the balcony.
-Extra frame after the closeup of Mafune during a cutaway from the Zion battle (you can see Kid for a split second).
Those were the only technical glitches I could find. If there are more I was not observant enough to catch them.

There were a few transitions I thought could be done better; I'm not a big fan of the white flashes to the next scene, but maybe there was no other way for you to accomplish some of the transitions. Also, I thought the transition from the Reloaded title to the hallway scene could have been better, as the code simply fades to black. I don't know what else you could do with that, but it just seems inconsistent with what we've seen of the Matrix code before. Maybe a cut to black then to the opening scene similar to what you did in Revolutions.

Storywise, I thought you did a great job, particularly Reloaded. Having the hallway scene from M1 open the film was an excellent decision and really ties a lot of stuff together (Like when Neo says "It felt like being back in that hallway." I was confused as to what he was referring to before, but this time I knew exactly what he meant.) It also makes for a far superior nightmare than Neo having Force visions of Trinity's death or whatever. And the ending of Reloaded was perfect! That's totally what they should have done in the real version! It's a shame about the original Oracle actress dying, and all the story complications is caused as well. I think you did the best you could with what you had to work with though.

As for Revolutions, I know you've said it's more of a rough idea of what you'd have liked to see happen, and you've certainly made a stronger film out of it, but if I may make a few suggestions story wise:
The opening through the end of the Smith fight is great. As much as I like Agent Smith (he really was the best part of the sequels), the war is not about him. He is only an obstacle. I think we lose some of the parallelism between Smith and Neo by taking him out so early, but so be it. That's what the official versions are for.

That said, while watching your edit I had assumed you had taken out the Neo coma/train station plot entirely. I was surprised to see it where you put it, after the final battle. It didn't feel right in that spot, to me anyway. However, that got met thinking, what would you say to this order of events?:

-Your opening up until the conclusion of the Smith fight.
-Neo is in coma after fight, no one knows what happened.
-Insert that whole subplot here, and put back in Sati and her family. That was a good bit remenicent of M1.
-Then back to the main plot, with your continuation and ending except it ends with the celebration and then the final Orcale/Architect/Sati scene.
(In this order of events it probably makes more sense to have Neo and Trinity die. I think one of your goals was to NOT kill them off, so that's really up to you).
-Also, giving Neo the Matrix vision outside the Matrix, for just the Bane-Smith fight would be acceptable I think. Otherwise Neo beating him makes no sense. It can be justified as part of the connection Neo and Smith have. And I know you said you couldn't find a suitable sound clip, but a "Yes, it is" by Keanu would really make it official that when he kills Bane that's the end of Smith. The way it is now Smith sounds like an idiot.

So these are just some ideas that came to me while watching your edit. I have no idea whether they would work or not, and I obviously don't know the Matrix backwards and forwards like you do, so I'd be interested in your opinion on them. Once again great edits and thanks for undertaking such a project, it was obviously no easy task.
