I hope they at least release the special editions of 1997 in HD, 2k or 4k. it’s very known that they won’t release the theatrical version at all but at least those versions would be great.
however I pray that they DO NOT make ANY new changes to the original trilogy. it has seen enough changes already, especially the Greedo-Han scene.

The theatrical version of the first film is literally getting a theatrical release next year. This is confirmed.

I don’t think it’s the original version. There’s been changes to the film ever since the release. It will still probably have some audio enhancements etc.

It looks up scaled. sure it looks good but it doesn’t look as good as it should. I also wonder if they will change the audio.

There has been no upscaling. Bear in mind these are YouTube uploads with all the compression that entails. We aren’t looking at rips of 4K discs.
We’ve gotten some samples of the new 7.1 audio, which seem to be hybrids of the theatrical mixes with some further tweaks to resemble a more “modern” sound mix.

The gouts were released by a different company 20 years ago… and even they where in 480p… no they’re not upscaled. you out of all people are in no place of expertise on image quality…

wrong. the 360p thing, as said many times already, was to imply how much I lack faith in these official releases, and all scans I have talked about are real. just because they are not advertised everywhere doesn’t make them not real.

As long as it is a faithful restoration and the negative grain, Not dupe grain is intact and we get the original audio and colors. I don’t see an issue.
I haven’t liked the audio samples for the new mix. I like the 35mm Stereo. I have never heard the 70mm mix as it has never been available. The Mono Mix is great for what it is.
It will be weird to hear another mix for Star Wars, just how many mixes now can we count. The first film has had an insane amount of revisionism through the years. Just for the mix in English. I haven’t kept track of the foreign language dubs, I’m sure that gets interesting too.

For the german dub I’m most curious about if they use the updated 2011 reconstructed Blu-ray audio, which reinserted a few lines at the end of ANH and a C-3PO line in ESB, or if they also do a complete new remaster. They most certainly will not use the original audio from back then.
I’m also more intrige to see how they will do the alien subtitles.

You’re not alone in that viewpoint, to be honest I’m not sure why they aren’t just re-releasing the films theatrically with the restored 70mm mix, as it would be perfectly fine as is. I suppose they had to find something to “modernise” if not the video then the audio instead.
It seems to me quite an inconsistent approach however, that when we go to the cinema to see this newly restored version we will get a very authentic visual presentation, paired with a revisionist sound mix.
We can only hope that the original 70mm/stereo/mono tracks will be included on the discs. I know a lot of UHDs tend to feature a new remix and the original mix, but there are some discs that only have the new mix e.g. Batman (1989)
