I agree, Bossk, though Yoda did say Luke was 'too old to begin the training.'
I can just see it...Yoda turns him away because he's too old, and as Luke flies off with R2, Obi-Wan appears beside Yoda:
'That boy was our last hope.'
'No! Too old is he. Accept him the council never would!'
'Do you see a council around here, Master Yoda?'
'Damn! Now what hope have we? Screwed, we are.'
