No, we just need to modify the traditions.

If Washington loses, the incumbent loses.
If Washington wins, the incumbent wins.
If Washington loses, but the Boston Red Sox win the series, its a cold day in hel...I mean, its anyone's ballgame.

The best part about it, according to trends, we won't have to worry about it until 2176.
(Assuming that Boston goes another 86 years before its next WS win. However, 2090 will not be an election year. After another 86 years, in 2176, that will be an election year.

Luckily, we won't be around to worry about it.
