Could his VII have been better than TFA? Hard to say. While TFA alone may have (almost deliberately) lost in originality to the PT, it was overall better directed from a technical standpoint. Had Lucas chosen to direct VII, but only co-writting the script (with Kasdan ofc), I think this time his movie could’ve been technically on par with TFA, and could’ve even surpassed it in feeling fresh while staying true to the originals.
