That's why I still have DVD; Blu's still a bit too expensive for me. Smith years still look miles better than the Tennant years, though, as far as cinematography goes...

Hope you enjoy the rest of Smith's tenure thus far, doubleo; I know I have... :-)
I'm a few episodes into my Blu-ray set of Series 6. It's alright so far. I don't like that the Blus don't remember my place, so I can't just watch when I can, I have to either have an hour to watch an episode, or figure out what chapter I'm on to skip back to it after all the ads load. It's really annoying.

Is that normal for Blu-rays? Or is it just your player? I've bought a small handful of Blu-ray discs since getting my PS3, but I have actually never gotten around to watching any of them.

It's per-disc. My Star Trek TOS BDs remember your place, for example and it has alternate angles and audio tracks to remember. Same with the Lord of the Ring Extended Editions and the Battlestar Galactica BDs. Some just don't care and put you back to the beginning every time.

I've finally caught up and up to date on the new Who. Don't tell me I managed to beat you to watching them all, I thought you watched like 20 episodes a week ;-)

Anyway, saw this on twitter earlier and thought you guys might like it.

Hey Doctor Who fans: what if the Statue of Liberty is just a giant Weeping Angel that never moves because people are always looking at it?

Cue millions of fan fiction writers getting ideas.

Your brain just makes s**t up!

A fate worse than death? Having your head digitally replaced with that of Hayden Christensen!

Surely all those people looking into it's eyes and taking photos, buying postcards etc will be in serious trouble.

Especially if they are Fringe fans.

BTW I think I've fallen a bit in love with this young lady.

Just listened to Spare Parts again.

It really is the best ever Cyberman story, possibly the best Doctor Who story, horrific stuff.

I wish the television show would return the Cybermen to their body horror roots.

That story proved that even after the Borg the idea could be terrifying on it's own terms.

I also like the idea of you changing it in your sig to discombobulate Fink. Earlier this year when Doctor Who related discussion was finding its way into several threads and everyone was changing their avatar to some incarnation of the Doctor or another, Fink kept trying to remind everyone that this was a Star Wars forum. That was fun. If you do change your sig pic to the screwdriver, I think we should plan another mass Who'ing of our avatars...

Awesome! Just don't tell him anyone....

Shhh!!!

Too late!

So, this is that show with the rather attractive redheaded lady, correct?

Correct.

Have you heard I, Davros? It's a sort-of prequel that tells the story of how Davros got to be in that dalek-chair thing. It's also about the dalek's origins and his scientific career. It doesn't feature the Doctor at all, as it's about Davros before he meets him.

Unlike some prequels I could name, it has the benefit of not completely sucking.

Another audio-drama I'd recommend is the Eighth Doctor Story The Chimes of Midnight. Also I'd recommend the Unbound stories, they're What if...? sort-of stories about the Doctor.

I have hundreds of hours of Big Finishes but I'm by no means up to date.

I'm not that much a fan of The Chimes Of Midnight (even though it was the first one I purchased), it has a bit of a Sapphire And Steel vibe to it but it feels rather forced at times.

I Davros is a great mini-series (not to mention a bit of a spoof on I Claudius in more than just the name).

Just finding time to listen to them underlines how stupid mortality is.

I did find the time however to morph all eleven Doctors into one face.

He looks rather interesting :

A bit like Paul (not the mind probe) Jerricho :

That's crazy/awesome.

I'm almost done with Series 6. Decided I don't like Moffat-Who. Will be selling my Blus back to Amazon for credit to spend on other shows I actually want to watch again.

It wasn't anything in particular. I like the Williams/Ponds, I just think the show is wandering around aimlessly. I'll watch it when I can, but I don't need to own it.

The show is about a man who wanders around aimlessly and has been for the last five decades :-D

I guess its that Moffat tries to make things big and dramatic, but then it falls apart after a couple episodes, then tries again and lets it fall apart. And the Monster-of-the-Week stuff in Series 6 is pretty disappointing.

Yeah but it's the same pattern as the RTD era and large chunks of the JNT era too.

It's still not how I would do it but it feels (for me) more like Doctor Who than it did under big Russ and Matt feels more like the Doctor than either Chris or Dave (if that makes sense for a character that shifts around so much).

I don't think the show needs arcing storylines.

It should be just a vaguely connected series of adventures in time and space with the characters holding just enough continuity to seem like the same people week in week out.

But I'm not in charge.

I guess since this is the only Who I know, I have a soft spot for Tennant. I can't compare it to the vastness that is the rest of the Doctors.

Finished Series 6 this morning. Of course, the last episode tries to tie everything together, then uses some loophole to get out of it.

SPOILERS

The Doctor has to die. The whole episode is showing what happens if he doesn't (time disintegrates). But instead of figuring out a way to save himself, he fakes his death and goes underground. Like he pulled one over on Time. Doesn't Time know better?

I also love that The Doctor can last 200 years without a companion (as The Eleven who fakes his death is 200 years older than the one who watches), but never lasts more than a few years with a companion without having to regenerate. Eight seemed to have lasted that long without dying, then turns into Nine who dies a year later. Ten can't last a couple months without a companion before becoming The Time Lord Victorious, then regenerating after 3 years of doing that. Eleven almost has to regenerate at least once a year with the Ponds, but can last 200 years without them. You'd think he'd stop wanting companions since they always seem to get him killed. ;-)

I do like the set up for next season/the future. The question that should never be answered was pretty clever.

END SPOILERS

Like I said, I'll keep watching, but I don't need to own it.

As for pulling the wool over time's eyes.

The fixed point isn't his actual death in this case but history recording it.

If JFK had successfully faked his death history would have played out pretty much the same.

If some someone had successfully managed to fake JFK surviving his death history would have changed.

We have a lot of on screen evidence of the Doctor having companions we don't see and he lies.

He may not really be as old as he makes out or even older (he seems to forget he claimed to be almost a thousand years old as the Sixth Doctor when he is the Ninth. He forgets he claims to be a Doctor for thousands of years when he in his third incarnation and as for the other incarnations before William Hartnell seen in The Brain Of Morbius he forgets them too).

The Doctor has always been an unreliable narrator, which is why arc based stories don't really work when they hinge on things he says.

I don't even see why he has to keep his head down.

Now that the universe assumes he dies in his eleventh form he can wander around in much the same way he already has and everyone will assume those adventures take place before he dies.

It was a mess though.

Why bother coming up with a storyline where time has collapsed onto itself when the production team clearly don't have the budget to explore the possibilities of such a world?

A whole series could have been set in that screwed up world.

Instead we got a few moments of visual madness and then a base under siege story that could have been set anywhere and anywhen.

Good points, Bingo, as always. That's when everyone assumes he dies, but because he travels in time, who's to say that he didn't do that before he died, maybe even in those 200 years he probably made up (though someone said he looked older).

Sad to read about Philip Madoc it's a shame he didn't manage to squeeze at least one more appearance into the show.

Reserving judgment until I see her intro episode.

But I will say that she's pretty much exactly how I pictured Lucie Miller in the Eighth Doctor audios (except for that sweater).
