This is no way for anyone to die.

I can only hope they’re now reunited and happy under whatever higher power may exist.

You’re saying TMZ isn’t reputable? Are you 80? Or living on another planet?
They break ALL entertainment news.

They break ALL entertainment news.

They also hide behind hedges hoping to catch famous people doing something they can use. They’re barely above sleazy supermarket tabloids. In my opinion of course.

And kindly keep wisecracks about my age and planetary location to yourself.

This week is only sucking harder now. 😦

In any event, I’m saddened to hear this news. I’ve always been an admirer of her Singin’ in the Rain and in her other films. Her role in film preservation also struck a chord for me. She and her daughter are missed.

IIRC, wasn’t Debbie the one who tried to convince the new owners to save the old MGM backlot from being torn down?

I would not be surprised in the very least if she did.

Not sure this is the time or place to have this debate.

Then feel free to tell the person who started it by questioning the news.

When poor Carrie was reported to already be dead in some corners of the internet last week, yes I question the news. End of discussion.

Carrie was never “reported” to be dead. People talking on Twitter doesn’t constitute a “report” unless you’re dumb enough to conclude it is one.

And the discussion doesn’t end simply because you say it does. You’ve already proven that your experience or intelligence level on the subject is…lacking.

Do not taunt happy fun mod. Take it to off topic if you feel compelled to continue.

Oooh boy. You’ve got some balls to insult a moderator like that, my dude.

I’m going to assume his experience and intelligence level on SilverWook’s status is … lacking.

One way would be to reference her fate in the crawl to IX, which would fit into the in media res opening sequence of the original film… .

I hope they don’t do that. Because the triumphant John Williams music accompanying the crawl is not a right music tone to announce someone’s death, especially when that coincides with the actor’s death. If we are to be told Leia died between Episode VIII and IX, then it needs to be done in a subtle manner, with soft/mournful music, in a separate scene.

Perhaps, we can have Ben Solo/Kylo Ren visit Leia’s tomb/resting place in secret.
But no, Leia’s death should not be announced during the opening crawl!

So there’s 4 possibilities: CGI, recast, have her off screen in IX, or recycle unused takes.

I think using the idea of using deleted scenes and unused takes is a wise choice. As for killing her off, I don’t know (I’m leaning towards No).

At any rate, the main saga is ending at IX.

Provided Luke and Leia survive Episode 8, it might be best to open Episode 9 with Luke sensing a disturbance in the force. He rushes to the source of the disturbance to find Leia (perhaps best to not see her face?) whom has succumb to injuries sustained in a First Order attack. He utters one word: “Leia…” and along with the audience, has a very emotional response.

I’m not concerned how they actually go about it, because I know they will do it in a way that both respects and honors the late Carrie Fisher as well as her surviving family. But this was just an idea I had. Poor Billie Lourd, to lose your mother and grandmother in a matter of just a day. I can’t imagine being put through what that family has experienced in the last week.

Part of me wants them to keep Episode VIII exactly as it would have been and not change a thing, since Carrie had already filmed all her scenes for the movie before her death.

There are a million and one possibilities. I’m sure everyone at Lucasfilm are putting their heads together. As others have said, Carrie would have wanted whatever is best for the sake of these movies. But we also want a worthy tribute to her, a sentiment no doubt shared by the filmmakers.

My thoughts?

I don’t want them reusing footage or using cgi for Episode IX. This is all obviously dependent on how things play out in VIII (and whether or not they simply make changes to that movie as well), but what I would want them to do is to take a page from how Leonard Nimoy’s death was addressed in Star Trek Beyond. Early in Episode IX, have a scene where a group of characters return from a battle. It was a victory, but General Organa was killed leading the Resistance.

An idea someone posted in the comments at birthmoviesdeath that I actually loved:

“(at some point) cut to a memorial statue or plaque, and we dolly out to reveal a person (Finn? Poe? Rey?) paying their respects as they pass by before joining a meeting or on their way to a ship or something.
They could even touch it and say “for luck” before moving on.”

That really got me, but in a good way.

My only other suggestion would be to give Billie Lourd’s character a bigger role in Episode IX. She was just on Late Night with Seth Meyers a couple weeks ago and is becoming quite the actress herself, despite - she mentioned - her family’s best efforts.

We can always look to how Star Trek Beyond gave tribute to Leonard Nimoy, perhaps the best way I’ve seen such a situation handled in a big blockbuster film.

If her role and performance in Ep 8 will be as unimpressive as it was in TFA, Star Wars should be moving forward normally.

However, I do agree that she deserves a scene in Ep 9.

Now this is too soon. For a supposed perfect being, you sure do say a lot of shitty things.

Was he talking about Carrie Fisher or her daughter, Billie Lourd?
