Fox Does 24-Hour Reality

Its all reality, all the time for Fox.

The broadcasting giant is getting ready to debut Fox Reality, a 24-hour, all-reality-television based network.

Starting May 24, such Fox reality classics as The Swan, Joe Millionaire and Temptation Island, as well as several non-Fox hits as Last Comic Standing and For Love or Money, will be broadcast 24 hours a day on Fox Reality. The network will be made up of reruns, behind-the-scenes footage, reality personality updates and expert commentary.

"We plan to make Fox Reality the most authentic destination for America's growing legions of unscripted fans," David Lyle, chief operating officer of the network, said in a statement.

Network execs are plugging away at adding more programming to the 1,000-plus hours of shows already on tap. In fact, Variety says Fox is currently in talks to snap up previously run episodes of The Bachelor.

Some of reality television's heaviest hitters, such as Survivor, American Idol and The Apprentice, are notably absent from the docket due to network deals and syndication availability. But Lyle told Variety he and his minions are working hard to bank as much reality TV as possible.

"We're interested in the widest range of reality programming we can get," he said.

Among other shows scheduled for a Fox Reality debut are two of the My Big Fat Obnoxious... franchises, Mr. Personality, Mad, Mad House, Meet My Folks, Arrest & Trial, Fifth Wheel and Who Wants to Marry My Dad?

Lyle said the network also hopes to roll out some original programming by the end of the year.

It remains to be seen if the network will succeed, but for now, deals with Adelphia, Insight, DirectTV, Dish and Cox guarantee Fox Reality will be available in at least 18.5 million homes.

Yeah, in this case, I definitely support the idea. Your idea, that is.

I guess I'll need a bigger hard drive for my TIVO.

This planet is doomed.

There is one, and only one way this could turn into a good thing; that is, if this Reality Channel syphons off all reality shows into itself, clearing the rest of TV from the plague.

Ok, I've got a question:
What makes it reality??

Anyone and everyone acts different when they KNOW a camera is around, so its not exactly reality, is it. True reality would be from a hidden camera series.

Also, I believe that article specifically used the word 'unscripted'...
If its unscripted, how exactly do you have day-by-day games to determine who "wins".

None of it matters, star. The shows suck the lifeblood of the entertainment inudstry.

They even made a reality movie for crying out loud!!

I know I'll probably get clobbered for this, but IMO Survivor is one of the best shows on television over the past several years. It's quite dramatic, albeit edited for drama, however I think it provides good twists and turns consistently week after week. However, 24/7 reality...echhhh.

I say we band together and buy a bunch of TV-B-Gones and go around shutting down electronics departments everywhere, especially those airing this new channel. There's a place to click in ric's link.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

You won't get clobbered. However, I won't say that it is the best show anymore. When they aired Survivor: All Stars, that was the end. That particular season of the show was just too great. Recognizable faces. Memorable attitudes. Reliving of old rivalries. After that, no new Survivor could possibly compare. I just couldn't go back to the unknown faces again. I can't stand Survivor anymore after All Stars. The end of that season was the Shark Jump point. Actually, I think you can nail the real Shark Jumping when Rob proposed to Amber. Great for ratings, great for the fans, horrible for future incarnations of the show because you just don't care about the new contestants anymore.

the reality show I liked was "The Mole".

And now Amber and Rob are on "The Amazing Race."

Lame. They already banked 2 million...AND they have a chance to win more! Honestly...

2 million? I was told it was 1.1 million. 1 million for her as the winner and 100K for him as the runner up. Maybe there's been more due to appearances and stuff like that, but they only won 1.1 million.

It's not lame. I think it adds a whole new dimension to the game because now everybody is not trying to win so much as just try to beat Rob and Amber. Also, I love how Rob schemes. He's a genius schemer.
