Ooo, I definitely like Duracell’s approach. One thing I can say easily right off the bat(no pun intended) is to not start with New 52. Just, no.

My recommendation would be to follow the Year One canon. Here’s an excellent list that sorts them in chronological order.

Batman: Year One
Legends of the Dark Knight - This was a long running series that is packed with great stories. The editor for most of its run is the legendary Archie Goodwin, famous editor and writer of awesome Star Wars comics.
Batman: The Long Halloween
Batman: Dark Victory
