Wasn’t this thread about japanese animated movies/tvseries/mini series ? Not a great surprise that Frink is an asshole (the kind I admit I have never seen elsewhere, it’s like he’s been raised to be an internet asshole) but there are other people on his side here who usually don’t share his agressive, hatred and fascist behavior. You don’t need to follow his steps you know; within a few years his little Frinkettes will replace him, hence the job is already taken dudes, so let it go… let it go… (Frink never bothered me anyway).
Yep, anyway…
So, on the rail again: I watched The boy and the beast a few weeks ago. Mamoru Hosoda is a fine director and he knows who to work with (design, animation, music, it’s always very good) but this time it felt a little bit flat with a very curious narative that kinda changes its topic for the third act. The issue is that the emotional climax already happened at the end of act II and the following felt more like an extension rather than a proper resolution. It’s nevertheless a good movie but it really seems that Hosoda has already met his own limits since its very first “real” film The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. A good director who delivers good movies, but he’ll never be as good as Satoshi Kon others. I still hope he will prove me wrong.
