The Carrie thing I side with LFL and Burtt on. I've watched the movie more times than any human ever really should, and not once has it sounded like Carrie to me, it has always, and likely will always sound like Hey. There's a modulation in the hey, which comes from the word being interupted by the hug from Leia, but that's about it. As for the novelization of ANH being arguably the first EU, i'd say that would be a very difficult arguement to make. Beyond the fact that Lucasfilm's cannon policy considers the novelizations of the films cannon, it's the novelization of the movie. it's not a new story. it has some material that didn't make it to film, but that's true of any novelization, as they're generally based on scripts before knowing which scenes, or portions of scenes, will end up on the cutting room floor. I'd say Splinter still takes the first place trophy as far as being the first EU Novel.
