Bossk,
The GBA connectivity works for 2 Zelda games:

1. In The Wind Waker, you can acquire a device (looks like a GBA) and if you connect the GBA, you are able to call and use a little annoying character named Tingle (seen in Majora's Mask, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons). One of his several abilities, is that he can drop bombs in hard to reach places for you.

2. Soon to be released: Gamecube 4 Swords game.
In 4 Swords, you've got a multi-player setup. When one player walks off to a different room as the other players, his screen switches to the GBA. This way, no one can see what's going on in that room.

sean,
I have heard of them, but I have never actually seen/played them.
If I remember my console history correctly, the CD-I games were a joint venture. Nintendo wanted to start with CD games, but didn't have the knowhow to develop. The originally contacted Sony, but then turned their back on them (then Sony went it alone, and we all know the result). Nintendo then contacted Phillips, and the CD-I games were born. It was short lived though.

I thought that GBA link up also worked with the new Metroid for some reason.

The GBA Link will link Metroid Prime to Metroid Fusion. If you beat Fusion and link them, you get to play the original Metroid on the GC.

If you beat Prime, you get to play it with the Fusion suit from MF.

And if you link Zero Mission with Fusion, you can unlock the Samus image galleries in Fusion.

And to anybody who doesnt have a GBA.. you really oughta get one. It freakin' rules! And it is cheaper than a PS2.

I would hope the GBA would be cheaper.

Yes, it is, but all this wonderful functionality b/w the GBA and the GameCube only works if you have both. I'd rather spend $200 on one game system than buy 2 for the novelty of limited interactivity.

I just want the GBA as a standalone portable gaming system.

You could also wait for the Game Boy DS. Don't know how expensive its going to be, and its will be a while before it gets released.

From what I heard it will be able to play all the old games (one of Nintendo's best moves ever...cartridge backwards compatibility).

Nintendo insists that the DS won't be called "Gameboy" Anything. But it is Backward compatible with GB games.. so.. Yeah.

And nobody says you need to buy both systems to take advantage of the connectivity. Just buy both for the games and if you want, take advantage of the connectivity. I never/rarely link my GBA to my 'Cube.

And If you don't want to spend 70-100 dollars for a GBA you can get the $50 gameboy player, which plugs into the bottom of the gamecube.

They do insist that, but I don't see how they can create a 3rd development area.

I think that the DS is the successor to the GBA, but they will continue GBA game development for a while after the DS is released.
1. The GBA is a nice platform, no need to dump it already. How long did the original last before it was replaced outright by the Game Boy Color?
2. Since the DS is backwards compatible, the DS owners are left out of the new GBA games.
