Ranking the Star Wars films — Page 56

I’m sure I’m not the only one but I feel Episode VIII will be really good.

TFA might be a better film than ROTJ, but my cognitive bias will deny that fact. Maybe Episode VIII will be better than both films, Episode IX definitely not.

How could you possibly already be making a judgment on IX lol

I think I’m going to alter my rankings for the films now.

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. Star Wars
  3. The Force Awakens & Return of the Jedi
  4. Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure
  5. Ewoks: The Battle for Endor
  6. The Clone Wars
  7. The Phantom Menace
  8. The Star Wars Holiday Special
  9. Attack of the Clones
  10. Revenge of the Sith

ROTJ & TFA are perfectly tied. They both have nice production values, some decent character moments, lack originality, and otherwise disinterest me into boredom. The likelihood of me watching either movie again is low.

If I had to rank them? I think I would go:

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. The Force Awakens
  3. Revenge of the Sith
  4. A New Hope
  5. Attack of the Clones (Ask me tomorrow and I’ll flip 4 & 5)
  6. The Phantom Menace
  7. Return of the Jedi

Not counting Ewoks and the Holiday Special. TV aint the same.

Needless to say I disagree about ROTJ being on the bottom.

Please don’t.

He’s already got ROTS ahead of ANH, so he might as well just be banned now.

Have you seen Jurassic World? Disney hired Trevorrow not because of talent, but money.

I didn’t think Jurassic World was that bad. Not good, mind you, but to preemptively dislike a film he’s directing just because he made a sub-par Jurassic Park movie (aka any JP movie after the first) is silly.

Precisely. He was given a shitty premise if there ever was one.

On another note, it was a shame, really, that The Lost World wasn’t a good movie. It had about the only possible premise for a good sequel to JP, and the book IMO was pretty good.

I can’t believe there are people here who honestly think The Force Awakens was better than Return of the Jedi. ROTJ was the weakest film of the original trilogy, but it’s light years better than TFA.

TFA is light years better than anything in the prequels. It’s on the same level as a good MCU film.

ROTJ suffers from some serious pacing issues in the second act and phoned-in performances from everyone except Hamill and McDiarmid, to say nothing of whether or not you’re willing to buy the Ewoks. TFA has its own issues, but I don’t ever find myself getting bored with it the way I often do when I watch ROTJ, and that certainly counts for something in my view.

There were no Ewoks in TFA and Harrison is great in TFA.

Just for starters.

TFA is a fresh start while ROTJ is a product of exhaustion. I’ll probably still be biased toward Jedi because it’s part of the OT.

This might be the first thing you’ve said that isn’t insane 😛

“By an astonishing coincidence, both films are exactly the same.”

He’s so bad in TFA… (we was bad in ROTJ but funny and young bad, not embarrassing old man bad… he doesn’t give a shit in both films anyway, the guy wanted Han to die so bad that he even was bad at playing it…).

I don’t really care if people think TFA is better than ROTJ. It’s a weird choice but I can understand it (TFA is not going to age very good so within a few years TFA will be ranked where it belongs, i.e. with the PT). As long as you rank ANH and TESB on top and AOTC at the very bottom, you can do whatever you want with the rest of the Episodes.

Hey look, a nonsensical Mala post. Ric told me that would happen and he was right!

Frink ! The famous OT member ! I thought you were a myth 😃 [insert squirrel face]

I think Harrison’s behavior prior to the release speaks more about his emotional investment to the film than his actual performance does. With that being stated…the man really cared. His line delivery and facial expressions tell the entire story.
