STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread — Page 47

Just saw the trailer and it was GREAT. I know I’m gonna get ripped on this but I think I got more excited with the season 2.5 trailer. This was awesome but a lot of the true excitement stems from Thrawns re introduction. I haven’t read Zahns post-Jedi trilogy so it wasn’t a huge deal for me when they revealed him. I have a basic knowledge of him though and have nothing wrong with his character so far. He looks great and I’m very excited for him.

Rebels season 3 will have the chance to give a lot of fans a character long missed. But it will hopefully introduce many fans to such a beloved character like myself. Overall, I’m keenly awaiting season three with big hopes and plenty of excitement 😃

I kinda agree with this. Darth Vader you expect to see, and it’s a big name. This season has a lot of surprises and it’s just the trailer!

Just a quick question - who is supposed to be that Thrawn guy? At least is he a hero or a villain?

If you watched the trailer you would know. If you haven’t the name Grand Admiral Thrawn would indicate what he is.

Man, you must not be big on EU or at least missed the Thrawn Trilogy books by Timothy Zahn. He’s an Imperial Grand Admiral and arguably one of the most popular EU characters ever created (not to me but a large section of the fan base).

Holy crap. Just watched the trailer.

Kanan looks cool (Sabine painted some Mandalorian Jaig eyes on his mask!)
Freaking WEDGE defecting (with Sabine, according to Tobar)
Y-Wings (Tobar says that the whole base and everything is taken from a West End Games scenario)
Battle Droids! Neat!
A YT-2400!
More Mandalorians. It’s cool because they were originally Imperial Supercommandos, which is what these guys are. Very exciting!
Dark. Freaking. Troopers. If they have the Arc Hammer I will lose my mind. If Kyle Katarn shows up, I’m sold forever.
Tarkin’s back!
Cham’s back!
Maul’s back!
TIE Interceptors (with red stripes)!
Nightsister magic?
The Bendu (Bindu) looks amazing. Definitely going to be seeing some really trippy Mortis/Korriban level stuff in this series.
Sabine gets the darksaber!
Scout Troopers!
More Inquisitors? Sith spirits? HMM!

And of course, Thrawn.

I’m a bit in the minority with him. By the end of the Thrawn trilogy, I hated the character because he’s just too perfect and infallible and it gets really stupid. Hopefully Rebels will turn him into a decent character, though. I’m more interested by the precedent it sets: if Thrawn can be recanonized, who’s next? We could get Mara Jade or who knows. That’s what’s really exciting to me.

…& what sounds like Tom Baker

He’s basically a blue-skinned love child of Erwin Rommel and Sherlock Holmes.

Correct, the only thing I know is that there is something called “Thrawn Trilogy”, but I have never read any SW novel / comic book. So he’s a big villain? Because the trailer evoked the feeling of a bad guy turning into a good guy.

It was confirmed that that is indeed Tom Baker which is of course extremely exciting.

Yep, him saying he’s going to “pull the Rebels apart piece by piece” really gives off a good guy vibe don’t it?

I’m not sure English is their first language so maybe it doesn’t make sense to them.

But no, Thrawn is solidly an Imperial lifer.

Well, Thrawn was made into something of an anti-hero/anti-villain in later books, so that could certainly end up happening in Rebels, too.

Good to hear that the Rebels creators said no to Ysalamiri. As someone on this website said, the Ysalamiri were like if the Bible had religion-cancelling cats that prevented Jesus from walking on water.

Weren’t they shown on that wall carving behind Thrawn in the clip though?

And now I have the mental image of some nefarious fellow throwing cats at Jesus…

Correct, and unfortunately the the trailer didn’t have subtitles. Thanks for the info

Dave Filoni said he just threw those ysalamiri-looking sculptures in there as a nod to them, but that he and George was talking about it and they decided they were kinda dumb and shouldn’t exist.

Back to eyebrows: would you believe they actually acknowledge this on starwars.com on the episode page?!

“Although the final cut of Return Of The Jedi has an eyebrow-less unhelmeted Darth Vader, to better read in animation, the animation model has the dark brow visible through the cracked helmet.”!

I just watched the finale, and was so excited about the eyebrows that the first thing I did was open up this thread and search for it. Maybe these dumbass changes will slowly slip from the grip of canon.

Hopefully not. The removal of the eyebrows corrects an error during shooting of ROTJ. There are the bad changes and there are the good changes, the “eyebrows correction” belongs to the latter [edit: not “later”, otherwise you miss the incredibly funny joke below]. I don’t mind them in Rebels because they “better read in animation”.

Oh I forgot a “t” at “latter”. Man… And some dude who only sees a tvseries to see blonde eyebrows (weird fetish) tries to make a joke about it. You’re too funny dude, you made my day…

Gotta agree with you here. it was a nice continuity change that was subtle unlike changing the emperor in episode 5, making him look awful, and fucking up his dialogue all for continuity.
