Hateful 8 Roadshow Cut (Released)

Just ordered the BD to try my hand at this. Does anyone have a video reference source for this version? I’ve already recreated the overture card using a couple of images I found online, but would need an original source for color reference, the remainder of the pre-film title cards, and timing.

From what I’ve been able to gain about this, it was edited differently and featured a new scene as well as a few extended ones. I’ve also heard something about a leaked screener - was this the Roadshow or Multiplex version?

That red is not solid all the way through. I think your matte lines are showing through just barely.

I’m pretty sure that’s just artifacts from the resize, but I’ll check and make sure.

Edit: I found the issue you were referring to. Good catch! Will reupload tomorrow.

I think the screener was the digital version. You may be able to dig up a theater recording as a reference, but it would obviously be useless as a source.

I have been unable to find any references (even CAM) of the Roadshow Cut, unfortunately. I LOVED the Roadshow cut. What I do have are recreations of the Overture and Intermission cards.

Could you post your intermission card? The best version I could find was unusable due to low resolution and screen reflection.

Here are the overture and intermission images. Note that unlike your version, mine has a red fade in the black area, which I don’t think is correct. The Overture version was made by a nice redditor in the Photoshop Requests subreddit, and I adapted it for the Intermission image. Mine are also 1920x1080.

The sky isn’t correct, but other elements of this are quite good. I’m already using some minor details from the horses and carriage in an update to my version.

Could you post your versions when you finish them?

This Roadshow version interests me immensely… were the extended scenes included in the Blu-ray? Come to think of it, what source are you using? Something tells me it’s the UHD version. I wonder if that’s the correct aspect ratio?

The Blu Ray is the shorter version only, and the OAR is 2.76:1

The Blu-Ray includes none of the missing scenes, and we don’t really have a video source for them. The Blu-Ray is in the OAR though, thankfully.

At this point we’re just recreating the overture and intermission experience, it seems.

Is it possible to purchase a 70mm print outright?

I’d hope! If someone actually gets to sell off one of those prints, that… would be… the tits.

Shouldn’t there be an Entr’Acte slide as well?

I don’t have much knowledge in this area, but owning a 70mm print of a recently released film would be almost impossible, not to mention unreasonably expensive. Plus, I’d think due to the roadshows being limited, all the prints were returned to The Weinstein Company’s vaults. Plus, it’s very clear that Tarantino wants the 70mm experience to be limited to those who attended a celluloid showing. He doesn’t like video very much.

In the future it would be interesting to see whether the Roadshow version, or clips from it at all makes it to video.

Well, why not do another roadshow then? Why let this genius go to waste?

Didn’t the French Blu-ray release have the Roadshow cut too?

Where’d you hear about that?

It turned out that the French distributors couldn’t get the rights to release the 70mm version. That insanely expensive version, additionally, had the strangest extras: including a “signed poster,” with facsimile signatures.

Rumor had it, once upon a time, that there was going to be a silent Brazilian release of the 70mm version. Take that as you will.
