I hate the term “African-American”. I have several black friends and they all hate it more than I do. My niece is African-American though. So the term has it’s place, of course. But calling Americans “African” because they have dark skin is stupid.
I have seen polls and studies that all seem to agree on one thing - that no one, even African-Americans, agree on what to call them(selves). I’m happy to use whatever term is accepted but there’s no consensus.
I actually know some that are totally fine with their white friends calling them “n*ggas,” and others that would never even use the term themselves. There really isn’t a consensus, at least not where I’m from.
While I know some black people who are okay with being called that by close friends as well, I still would never do it because I don’t want the word to become comfortable to me.
