One Last Thing on Maximizers
I totally forgot to mention this, but it is a pretty important point:
The whole point of the window arrangement system was to increase productivity. The main way that the windowing system is by making windows exploit humans’ basic spatial ability. A key skill of all humans is to manage objects in space. Arranging them, moving them, the whole lot. One thing that was ingenious about the traditional desktop model is how it gave users the power to exploit this innate skill and become more productive because of that. Now, the window model may not have been totally successful at achieving this goal, just ask a tech-incompetent person how many windows they typically have at a time, and the answer you usually get is zero. But that’s a whole other rabbit hole. . . .
