Star Wars TV Confirmed

Steve Sansweet, who handles fan relations for Lucasfilm, told Now Playing Magazine that Star Wars will live on in various TV projects beyond the upcoming final prequel film Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith.

"We are looking into all kinds of things for the future," Sansweet, Lucasfilm's director of content management and fan relations, told the magazine. "We're looking for television clearly—animation [and] we are looking into live-action television." Sansweet declined to say what kind of live-action TV programming the studio envisions.

In addition, the Star Wars franchise will continue in LucasArts games, Sansweet said. "Not only the kinds of things that are there now, but as technology progresses, we're looking at what direction that can go," he said. "We're also continuing to see how we can expand Lucas Online in various ways." Episode III opens May 19.

Star Wars on TV... I'm not so sure I like this development.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Though I agree to an extent. I wish they weren't doing this since if it fails it will just ruin Starwars' credibility even more.

I just hope it doesn't go campy and become a self-parody.

Yeah, but this is Lucas and I anticipate he would want EVERYTHING to tie in somehow.

A T.V. series huh? I've got a bad feeling about this.

The Indiana Jones TV series wasn't too bad, if the SW series on the same caliber as it was, it might be pretty enjoyable.

I thought it was bad.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. I never saw that.

Actually, it's been years since I've seen any of the Indiana Jones movies all the way through.

Boring, but not bad imho.

I thought those were the actual episodes of the show, not some new movies. The stuff packaged in the VHS set was just supposed to be the Young IJ Chronicles TV show.

Yeah it was the episodes, sans commercials, advertised as 'the Young Indy Movies' or somesuch. I agree they were well done and occasionally interesting, but overall somewhat boring. I think the key points that would make a Star Wars TV series work, at the very least, would be not to pander to merchandising or worry about syndication formatting (IE obvious commercial breaks) but to make something that could easily flow as stand-alone mini movies themselves. Perhaps something like HBO or Showtime could be the place for them (I know, I know... but what about us who don't have those pay networks... cuz I don't) as I think those networks have a higher standard of quality than most any other (IE USA or Sci-Fi).

Also, it would be great if some decent Sc-Fi authors could be brought aboard like was done with the original Star Trek series.

the Indiana TV series was terrible. If Lucas does to Star Wars what he did to indiana, he should be put to a slow death and forced to watch the Indiana series while dying.

Did he not do that already with Episode 1?

I don't know how I feel about a Star Wars show. As much as I'd like to see the saga continue in live action, specifically the continuing adventures of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, how would it reconcile with the EU? I mean, they can't just ignore it, but if they don't, people will be totally overwhlemed with new characters (Mara Jade, Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo, etc.) and plot developments (Coruscant, the Jedi Academy, etc.). And if the series is set between RotS and ANH, will movie characters appear? I doubt Ewan McGregor would commit himself to such a show, and who knows about the rest of the cast. And what would it be about? Hunting down the remaining Jedi? Early Rebel attacks on the Empire? Luke growing up? The best bet it seems would be a KotOR-era show, but who would care about the characters?

It would be awesome if they did a JEDI TALES cartoon - you know like the adventures of a young Yoda and such...

*sigh* do I really have to put "(imho)" in front and in back of everything I say about the PT?

What about doing TV versions of the EU books?

Everyone would love to see that happen, but it won't.
