Since we’re on the topic of unnecessary sexualization in Star Wars…the shots of Anakin without his shirt on counts as sexualization as well.

True…at least George gave a little bit of equal time there. I can’t help but wonder if that was in response to some of the criticism of Padme in AOTC…the way he (mostly) buried Jar Jar after TPM shows he does react to criticism.

Good. Since 2/3 of the other main female characters were sexualized it would be refreshing to see one that doesn’t get the same treatment. She can still have a romance but keep her attire PG.

At least The Force Awakens clearly respected her enough to not use her for any blatant fanservice.

Are you serious ? Every piece of dialogue when she’s with Han and with the Falcon aren’t fanservice by your books ?

By the way: Padmé wasn’t sexualized either, although she was hot. It would be impossible to sexualize Rey.

1: Obviously not the kind of fanservice I was referring to.
2: Sure. It is physically impossible for Daisy Ridley to be sexualized. She has the mythical power of Anti-Objectification, preventing her from ever being in a revealing outfit and magically preventing any camera-angles that could potentially accentuate her features.

Malà is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) Daisy critics in the world. It’s a rather exclusive, delusional group.

In terms of equal treatment one could argue Luke was a bit sexualized in ESB when he was wearing that sleeveless shirt during his training session. When factoring that in it’s hard to say.

Hopefully this time the deleted scenes include something “more meaningful” that can be inserted in future edits. But there will probably be just more 10 second snippets with timecodes etc, haha! I’m just wishing for almost anything to replace / alter the Rathtar scene. 😛

EDIT:

Hopefully the deleted scenes don’t have the time code again. And hopefully a couple of them add something to the plot

I like the way you think… 😉

I’d like to see more scenes spent on just the characters, their background, their dream and struggle, but I doubt there are any. A nice addition could be been something related to Ren and his table of ashes.

It doesn’t have to be anything super overt. It could just be Storm Troopers gossiping about Kylo’s peculiar habits.

:\ That would be a “bummer”. I’d rather see Ren pouring Lor San Tekka’s ashes on his table while thinking over his death.

I would prefer that but what I was proposing was something that’s not overt. But not only would him talking over the ashes make him more menacing it would also add to the mental illness component of his character. Though I’m sure they’ll expand on his mental state in the sequels.

Why should sexualization be inherently wrong in movies?

It’s only bad if it doesn’t add anything to the plot or the character being sexualized. Luke’s bit of sexualization showed the audience that he was progressing. Leia’s sexualization led to a great character moment when she strangled Jabba with the very chains that bound her to him. Anakin and Padme’s sexualization was there for literally no reason.

I mean even if it’s just for the viewers, not for the plot: if characters (men and/or women) are made sexual in some way, is it inherently wrong in movies? It shouldn’t necessarily mean sexual objectification.

If a Rob Zombie or a Michael Bay movie wants to show their characters in a sexual way for no reason that’s not bad because of the types of movies those directors make. Star Wars on the other hand should be better than gratuitous and unnecessary sexualization of it’s characters.

Also it’s typically very one sided. I recently watched a movie called Good People with James Franco and Kate Hudson. There’s a scene where Hudson is in the shower and Franco is talking to her from outside the shower. Franco gets in but you only see him from the waist up. Hudson gets out and the camera cuts to a long shot where you can see her fully nude from behind. If you also saw Franco fully nude from behind when he got in, nothing in the scene would have been sexual objectification because it all would have made sense in the context of the scene. But by only showing Hudson nude, it becomes sexual objectification.

She’s good looking and has a beautiful body, so even if she was wearing a burka people would still think she’s sexualized. I wouldn’t say the same about Ridley…

Natalie’s hot but I would still smash Ridley so hard. Daisys fucking gorgeous

I can amen that brother

EDIT:

Also on top of being smoking hot she can also be just adorable when she wants to.

I’m glad no one is doing any sexual objectifying in this thread.

Sheesh. Random internet dude saying he’d “smash” a woman “so hard.” For fuck’s sake man.

That’s not exactly the response I expected lol

Wow, with all this attention to Portmann and Ridley, surprised no one is going to bring up Isaac. I’d die for a shirtless Poe scene in Episode VIII.

Amen to this too. I wonder if Poe and Rey will have something as the novelization set up. I wish they conversed in TFA even if their interaction wasn’t setting up a potential romance.

This is all making me very afraid to wander into our fan fiction section…not that I wasn’t afraid to do so already.

It’s in a canon novel so I wouldn’t exactly think it to be fan fiction.

I meant all of this, not that specific romance. And something in a canon novel wouldn’t stop you guys from writing it more…creepy.

You mean wanting to fornicate with an actress/actor is fanfictiony? What?

Also all I said was mere speculation about if Poe and Rey were going to be a thing. I didn’t say anything about how they were going to fuck and under what pretenses the sex was going to be under.

Maybe you need a sampler of a lot of fan fiction.

I really hope that doesn’t become of thing. Rey should just be Rey.

Just because Luke didn’t end up with anyone in the OT doesn’t mean Rey has to follow suit. Her character shouldn’t hinge on being in a relationship; a romantic relationship should add to her character.

Teenage George’s influence seems to be sleeping in here.
