The space battle at the end does feel like old school Star Wars though.

You mean the part where the 5 year old takes out an entire armada of ships with his nifty spinning trick? It’s a juvenile film that would be tolerable as a juvenile film without Jar Jar and the Gungans. Those guys just make it entirely unwatchable.

Gonna have to agree with you here. The lightsaber battle was the best thing of this part—it is pretty nifty.

And even that is shit

I disagree.

Watch the video. Not only is the “fight” more like a dance but the choreography doesn’t make any sense. Say what you will about the OT duels but at least the choreography in ESB and ROTJ were actually reminiscent of people fighting. And that goes doubly for TFA.

I would say that applies a lot more to ep. II and III. The OT duels feel like real fighting, TPM feel like slightly exaggerated fighting, and AOTC and ROTS just feel like glow-stick ballets.

This feels a heck of a lot more genuine than this.

(I mean seriously, what the heck are they doing in the ROTS click? At least in the TPM fight you feel like Obi-Wan wants ro actually hurt Maul rather than just showing off his lightsaber swirling skills. I especially like his little blind swipe at Maul as he runs away. That feel very genuine too me.)

To a certain extent I agree with you due to the entire Mustafar Fight taking the principles in the Duel of The Fates at taking them to the highest extreme possible.

I still like it, so I reiterate:

I disagree.

It’s still pretty to look at I guess but that’s all I’ll give it.

TPM’s saber fight was the beginning of a very rapid decline in saber fight quality.

TFA we started to regain some of what was lost. Obviously not so much in terms of skill, but definitely in realism.

I think I’ve fallen asleep during every one of the acclaimed Studio Ghibli films. So boring.

I know this is a response to an old post, but this is exactly why I should browse all the topics more often. Should I just assume that this entire forum is brimming with brilliant jokes at my expense, or is this an exception? Either way, well played.

In all other respects though, TPM is superior to the other two prequels imo.

Old school in that it’s physical models and explosions. It’s only been fairly recently that CGI ships made me think I was looking at a real vehicle with weight to it. There’s one stardestroyer shot in the Rogue One trailer that had me believing the original model had been used.

Oh ok, gotcha.

Pfft. You can’t outmaneuver me on technicalities, Frink. Read between the lines. The flowers are already in the mail, and we’ll be related by next week. Nice try.

EDIT: Damn, was that the Internet’s first mid-air marriage proposal collision?!? You saw it here first, folks.

One thing GL did right in the prequels, he saved the Vader reveal for the end. It made a much better ending than any of the prequels before it. I think JJ might have copied him a bit when he saved the Luke reveal in Ep 7 for the end too.

Yeah, my favorite part was when Vader asked if Padme was ok, Palps said Vader killed her, and Vader said Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

That was really good stuff and it’s obvious JJ copied it.

Leaked excerpt from Ep VIII script:

REY: I'm here about the Jedi training course, is enrollment still open?

LUKE thinks back on the failures of the past, of BEN becoming KYLO under his watch. Terrified by the possibility of having another student, he screams.

LUKE: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Difference is JJ didn’t make 3 movies and then had Luke appear at the end only to make him look like a complete buffoon.

Is this for real?

Seriously, is this from an actual canon SW comic? This seems more like Robot Chicken joke. I honestly can’t read this panel without hearing Seth MacFarlane’s voice as Palpatine.

This became a lot more bearable after I listened to the ROTJ Radio Drama. It ruined the ending confrontation ever worse than the Blu Ray if you ask me.

He managed to do the latter with only one film.

It depends on if he really went looking for the first Jedi Temple or not.

I didn’t realize you played Luke in TFA.

I’m sure this has been discussed at some point but let me reiterate. At the end of New Hope Han gets enough money to pay off Jabba the Hut, but in Empire he still has a price on his head. I don’t understand why he didn’t just pay off Jabba first, then meet up with the rebellion on Hoth. Is there a reason for this that I missed?

I’m pretty sure impscum can answer this.
