In Season 3, the voice cast was changed when Saban lost control of the franchise; Funimation could no longer use the "Ocean Group" actors, which were generally better but not good... So they hired a bunch of D-List voice actors. Rather than bucking the trend of terrible voices, they had the new actors and actresses imitate the season 2 group (!!HOW STUPID!!) and the result is the audio travesty that is Funimation's season 3.

2) What do you mean? What did I say there? The voices in the Dub of Nausicaa don't suck like they do in most dubs. Have you seen the dub of Zatch Bell on Cartoon Network? Zatch Bell, I swear, is played by the same woman who plays Jimmy Neutron!
4)Granted, but text can't convey the same emotion. As Uma Thurman said in the Behind the Mic feature, Japanese speach has different vocal emotional paterns than English, so sometimes scenes feel off because of that difference.
Still, I like to listen in Japanese. I'm not attacking the original version, just defending the dubbing. What I'd like to know is why all anime even have to be dubbed? Most anime dub companies can't even find decent voices, so why not just show them in the original voices with subtitles? Wouldn't that be cheaper?
