Howard the Duck DVD Project

Hi all!

Its great to see so many people rallying up to get the original trilogy released on DVD! However, I think many people have forgotten about another film our good friend George Lucas is keeping from us; of course I'm talking about that feathered fiend Howard the Duck! This is a film with many fans and no DVD released ever set to come (Mr. Lucas said in an interview that it would never be released because there would be no market for it).

Like the original trilogy, Howard's only digital outing was on Laserdisc, but unlike the trilogy, the Howard the Duck laserdisc is VERY rare. There are only a few laserdiscs still floating around - and as I live in the UK I have never clapped eyes on one. So a few months ago I bought a copy of eBay - and to be honest the quality left a lot to the imagination.

So, I decided to put my tallent of remastering old videos into remastering Howard the Duck. The result was a much sharper image with little picture interferance. But it is still a little shiny and, well, Video-like. It looks like I need a new maser source, and thats why I posted this message. Has anyone out there had better luck with copies of Howard the Duck?

If you are interested in my project, I have started a website dedicated to it:

Enjoy!

I, for one, would love a copy regardless, I love this movie - and even my wife knows that Lea Thompson is my girlfriend.

From what I've heard its a love it or hate it movie, I'd really like to see it.

It doesn't look too hot on IMDB though.

Egad this was a bad movie. And it's got Lea Thompson in it, too. That should mean I would like it. Alas, I do not.

It's bad, but it's not that bad... Watchable.

Is it like Batman Forever bad or Batman and Robin bad?

I would equate it to B&R.

NO way! I rather watch "Howard the Duck" 1000 times than to just merely look at a single frame of "B&R"...

Yeah, but considering I could choose Uma Thurman in a skintight green outfit as that "single frame of 'B&R'", I think I'll take it.

But seriously, if you had to watch either one of those 2 movies, you'd rather watch B&R? Really?

Yeah, I'd have to be in the 'Howard' over 'B&R' camp. EVEN considering the fact that before 'Howard' came out I was a big fan of the comic (great 70s/80s socio-geekio-comicbookio-parody for those who have never read it... and big nods to the toy company for including a Howard toy with the Silver Surfer action figure... but I digress).

The film was a let-down in so very many ways... but maybe it was the age I was at when I saw it as opposed to the age I was seeing 'B&R' . I dunno.

Plus that stop-motion demony creature at the end was pretty boss!

To be honest, I can't really say with any certainty. I've only seen B&R in small spurts and never all the way through. I'd probably say B&R just to say that I've actually seen it. Then, when faced with the choice between B&R and Howard, I'd go grab a hot iron and burn my eyes out.

Hey, if we can get Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in there with their guns and blow Howard to Timbuktu, I'm all for their digital insertion in the film.

The problem with "Howard the Duck" is that he uses the word "duck" too many times. And Jeffrey Jones, who I feel was miscast.
